My R3 screen seems to be faded and have some burn in. At night I can barely read HWY on right side. I was in on the original order ...319 on serial #. Love the R3! But this shouldn't happen. Anyone else seeing this issue?

Same here on a few of mine. I do not recommend using bright all the time. Run dim during the day.

What's the point of various settings if I cant use them? Maybe first batch had issues? My R1 is good, but only several months old.

I think the intense sun + bright display is a culprit. If I'm not mistaken this is a problem in very hot states mostly.

OLED is the culprit.

OLED displays are susceptible to burn in, also called image retention. It's exacerbated by heat and direct sunlight. It's actually the organic LED BURNING itself up that causes it to dim and the various red, green, and blue subpixels burn out and can't display their color as brightly any more. You need varied content displayed on the screen to age the pixels at a more uniform rate, and give certain colors a "rest" but the RD screen is always a static image, so it's the worst possible combination of scenarios for this type of display.

There's no fix other than a new screen. It's a horrible tech to choose to use in a vehicle, but awesome for HDR 4K TVs.

If you want to see what happens to an LG OLED TV after abusive use, check out these links:

www.rtings.com: 20/7 Burn-In Test: OLED vs LCD VA vs LCD IPS

www.rtings.com: Real Life OLED Burn In Test on 6 TVs

I own a LG OLED, it's got freaking badass amazing picture quality, but you have to know how to treat it to make it last. For a detector, it's a stupid choice for a display, but it's not like we were given any options. I run it in dark so it only lights up when I get a hit thus saving the display for as long as possible. Eventually, that blinking dot will burn in and become unreadable, unless uniden shifts it to other pixels in a future update.

Oled.
This is why I preferred the screen on the Redline/9500IX much better.

I haven't had issues since I had my screen replaced from the original polarizing problem, but I use dimmer 100% of the time because there hasn't been a good solution for Auto Brightness.

My R3 is mounted below RVM. I never leave it up if I'm not in the car. It comes down if I go in a store. If I'm out of the car, it comes down. I run bright during day and dimmer at night. I guess dark mode is my best option.

Uniden should develope a screensaver routine. Something that changes it up when it's not detecting a threat. For example, moving the speed readout across the screen slowly by a pixel or two every so many seconds.

For those that only care about the display when there's a threat, there could be a blank screen option too. Also handy if you want it stealth.

Yes agree. Send in for repair. I am sure Uniden would like to look at the display. They do not want a reputation hit on something like this. Running dim all day is not what they planned when they introduced them.

Until we hear back, guess I will duplicate what Aim4 suggests.. Dark until alert setting.

I’m gathering you think it is the direct sunlight then and not the heat. Something black would still get wicked hot in the sunlight absorbing the heat, right?

Edit note: fixed to reference correct quote.

There is a blank screen option; Dim=Dark

Does it brighten when there's an alert? I honestly haven't played with that option.

On Dark mode it will. Stays off except for a single period cursor that pulses once a second in the lower left corner. When there is an alert it will light up, and turn off once the alert has stopped.
