Is 4.2.23 a beta version? Last official version released is still 4.2.10 I think?
I think so too, Harold.

EU Beta FW is at 4.2.16_UK with a new HD FW at 6.2.1.

I was given VIP 4.2.23 and HD 6.2.1 by Stinger a while back now, but I have not seen any official release of these. Go directly to Stinger USA and ask them what's up?

I have had my stinger for going on 3 years now.... with all the new great stuff coming out I think it’s time to retire it.... I just don’t want to tear my whole car apart to uninstall it

If you’re still satisfied with it, no need to remove it. You can always wait to see what else comes down the line that’s better. Or if you’re not, you could always pop a windshield mount up (Pro M, R7 maybe) until something comes out that compels you to drop the cash and make the effort. In the end it’s up to you :)

How much is a used stinger? I would love to use it for testing.

Honestly I have zero regrets with replacing my Stinger setup with the Max360Ci.

The only caveat there is that in NA it’s no good for MRCD/CT.... but that doesn’t affect me.

In terms of a well behaved all in one unit that Just Works, I really think Escort did a good job. And I trust that setup way more than I ever trusted Stinger’s performance.

(I think if you really want to best of the best you’ll have to mix and match radar and laser solutions.)

To be honest I only drive my gtr maybe 5000 miles a year so I don’t get to test it that often and I really have no big complaints just little things like auto brightness doesn’t work, front and rear detection is always weird responses and my spot list works 70% of the time and the bsm is starting to get bad lol

Have you allready updated to the latest version and if your spotlist doesn't work you mean it isn't up to date or you haven't got a good GPS signal?

I have not updated it in about 9 months.... I will check if there is a newer version. Maybe I should also just factory reset the thing too since all the updates on updates piled on updates.

I"m looking forward to hearing more v4.4.00 feedback. So far this has been quite an improvement for me on the display auto-brightness and BSM filtering (but it's only been 6 days).

I’m curious if there has been any more news from Stinger that anyone might have heard.

I saw they had a blog post from last month regarding a hands on testing event they held with installers and their new fiber system.

Vortex recently posted some testing results:

Thanks. Great reviews. Can’t help but still be disappointed in Stinger. While the laser fibers seemed to do well the radar was rather pathetic. Seems like the wrong place to be having issues for this level of a product. My inner geek really wants their product to perform better, beside the fact that it’s way over priced for what it even claims to be.

So regarding the RD side, Stinger has a new antenna called the HD+ antenna. I've had my system for a while and it's likely that I have the older HD antenna. I'm also running the older computer center with the plastic shell, not the newer one with the newer shell. Once I get home later this week, I'm going to go check which version of the antenna I have installed and see if it's the older HD antenna.

The newer HD+ antenna has better Ka sensitivity so the current version of the VIP should perform better than what I saw in testing, assuming I have the older version. Neither Stinger nor I thought about this before testing and they only brought it up once they saw my screenshots of what firmware versions I was running once I was getting into laser testing after the radar testing.

Thanks for that clarification Vortex and thanks for the great testing efforts. I will keep an eye out for that info. I’m curious if you have any read on the company and their efforts in general. It sounds like they were responsive to you. They just don’t seem to really have much of an active public face like many of the others.

Now if only they would address the pricing. I think your assessment in your review was spot on. Not sure how they justify more than double an ALP system which performs better. Kind of bizarre.
