    That’s great news, but if the veil guy video is anything to go by the actual workers there seem like great people. It’s the leadership team or middle management that seem to have their heads too far up you know what

    Thanks for doing this Vortex! Great set of questions. Looking forward to the interview.

    One thing to add (unless I missed it): If it is not off limits (as I understand they may not want to comment on upcoming products):
    Could you ask Escort whether there is any truth to the Escort Redline EX 360 rumors and, assuming they can even answer the first part, whether there is any ETA and what, if anything, they can share at this time about its features / benefits.

    We'll probably know before then if history is any indicator. They LOVE theirJune/July release dates and alwyas have. Then they typically ship sometime in August or early Sepetember, as they have for years.

    I just hope Escort gives us some “red meat.” I would like to get excited about their products again. I dropped off with the repackaged models (passport, x70, x80, solo 4, ...etc)

    Time for another followup. Plane tickets are booked and the interview will be August 8th.

    We discussed it some more and we agreed that it'd be better to have this prerecorded. What we have in mind now wouldn't be conducive to an iPhone on a tripod. :)

    Chris Cowger, the CEO, won't be at this event as planned. However, he'll be at SEMA and I'll be talking with him on camera. (I'm excited about SEMA. Those shows are lots of fun and my flight and AirBnB is booked for that already as well now.) :)

    Anyway, coming back to the interview, I'll be talking to a number of people from Escort including:

    Mark Karnes – VP, Strategic Planning and Business Development
    Dave Smidebush – VP, DTC & Customer Service
    John Kuhn – VP, Engineering (during the tour and before group interview)
    Roy Coburn – Director, Premium Radar
    Brian Hosler – Product Manager for Apps (might be via phone)

    So we'll have a number of people to talk to there, both engineering people as well as managers who help guide the company and I'm glad I'll have a chance to talk to people who handle both of those aspects of the company. Customer service is included too which is great.

    (Larry is notably missing from Escort's list. I'd brought up the idea of talking with him and obviously I have mixed feelings. I've been thinking about it quite a bit and ultimately I think it'd be for the best to pass on that for now. I'd imagine it'd be incredibly awkward, uncomfortable, and ultimately unproductive. Maybe once I have a chance to talk with other people and go over things first, but yeah. It sounds like Escort also agrees that it'd be best to have other people be a part of the discussion.)

    One of the next question is logistics. Should we do it as a round table discussion? That'd be good for everyone talking together, but we'd need multiple cameras to get different camera angles. It'd be good to do a mix of group chatting as well as one-on-one interviews with the different people.

    We're still going over the topics of discussion, what I'd like to discuss, and what they'd like to discuss. They've got some stuff they'd like to share above and beyond the stuff I want to talk about.

    Now that all the main stuff is in place, I'm planning out what gear I need. (I always love the tech toys part.) I just got a wireless mic in today so that as I'm walking around the factory, I can have the other person mic'ed up as well when I'm walking with them. I'm planning on shooting the factory rou with my iPhone on a gimbal. It should be nice and smooth and I can shoot at 4K for a change. :D I'm still testing iPhone vs. GoPro and I'm leaning towards iPhone since I can shoot at 4K and get a normal view instead of the fisheye look like I'd get with the GoPro. So I need to do more testing since I haven't done a ton of videos walking around places holding a camera. (I think the videos walking through SEMA/CES with a selfie stick are the only ones I've done before. Most of the time the camera is fixed on a tripod or on my windshield.) So that's just a little behind the scenes stuff so far as far as planning, the logistics, and ensuring the audio/video are good too. :)

    IMHO, you already know the questions to ask because there is really only 4 or 5 core questions that constantly present themselves. A livestream with users asking questions would be a little too chaotic and the questions asked by users may not be worded as poignantly or correctly as you could pose them yourself. My vote is for you to gather information on each question, aggregate the data into clear and concise questions to be posed, and ask them yourself. Just don't let them get away with giving you PR answers. I think everyone has faith in you Vortex.

    Seeing how this progressing, and hoping for the best but I have been in similar business settings/client meetings and have my own hunches how this will pan out, but best of luck Vortex, will be curious to watch the video...

    I understand the whole Larry not being at the table principal and can certainly agree with it...However if Escort/Cedar etc... really are serious about helping customers and repairing the relationship between them and the on line community, somebody should at least be present to address how they got so screwed up and what is being done to correct it...

    Yep! SEMA is around Halloween, so Oct/Nov, while this interview will be next month in August. They're gonna be at SEMA too so it would be important for both Escort and myself to ensure they don't conflict. :)

    @Vortex, my question for you to ask escort company is : What is their purpose in customer services and their definition of customer services satisfaction with in the community?.

    Vortex just watched your 5 minute Friday and read your update above. I am a firm believer in that company attitude and philosophy BEGINS at the top. So if the CEO is not at your meeting, who is next in the organization chart? Are those individuals at the meeting? That is very important in my mind, as if those individuals are not present, then line managers don't run the show. They can only "talk the talk".

    I liked their products years ago, but I gave up on them around 4 years ago. they will have to release something very significant and cutting edge for me to reconsider giving them my business again.
