    Hello everyone,

A little while ago on June 12th, a thread - https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?threads/75698/ - which now exists in a closed and redacted state in an elevated access section for archival purposes, was created by user @aode06 which showed a heavily edited version of an email he received from a representative for the K40 company.

K40 soon after sent out a mass email to correct the thread posted by @aode06 which contained this:

    k4k.png

This mass email really speaks for itself and shows you just how modified the email the user posted.

Make no mistake - aode06 purposely modified the email in question to make it appear as if the K40 company wrote it. Whether the additions/modifications/removals were true or not, it was presented to the community as if it was made specifically by the original email sender.

That is not acceptable behavior on this forum, and should not be acceptable anywhere, frankly. It is also a violation of one of our rules, each of which we take very seriously:

    #13:
Any member who acts, behaves or conducts him or herself in a manner which harms or could potentially harm RDF or this community is subject to an infraction or loss of privileges. Examples of conduct which violates this rule include, but are not limited to:
    • Manipulating testing to falsely prove one product or service is better than another
    • Intentionally posting false or misrepresenting information on RDF or any other website
    • Collaborating with any entity listed in rule #1 which could educate them on how to defeat our equipment
    • Testing equipment with any entity listed in rule #1
    • Intentionally testing with and/or jamming-to/from-gun (JTG/JFG) any entity listed in rule #1, and/or any entity whose primary purpose is other than testing
    --

Look, whatever your personal opinions are with an individual or company, you do not have the right to use this forum as a method to spread false information about them. It goes against the very fabric of our forum's core values and ideals, and harms the community and industry as a whole, which as you know has enough problems.

Had aode06 simply shown the original email and then separately provided his opinions/facts/fact corrections there would have been ABSOLUTELY ZERO issues caused. It does not matter ONE BIT if the alterations he made are 100% true - he did so to purposely mislead this community and that is completely unacceptable.

We give you guys extreme latitude on what you may discuss here - one prime example is many of your negative opinions regarding Escort's recent behavior. And as gritty as that may be, we allow it to happen because freedom of speech is something that sparks discussion and progress.

Not only is something like this just completely wrong, but it also has legal ramifications. It's potentially defamation. While RDF is not on the hook for things like this because we are protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, you must be careful about how you present information to the community. If you decide to mislead the community and misrepresent official communication from a company who has no problem with using lawyers as pit bulls, be prepared to suffer the consequences. These are choices you must make. It's just the way it is.

The administration here has discussed the situation and here's what we are doing in this case:

1.) The user aode06 has been placed on a 15-day ban and his future here will be decided by the RDF jury.

2.) The thread in question has been removed from the public forum and will remain closed to any further discussion.

3.) This statement here has been posted to explain the situation and go over what we expect from our members regarding posting misleading information, and the potential side effects of what happens if you decide to go about this type of behavior.

If you guys want to discuss various topics which were brought up in the original thread in question, by all means do so. We have no interest in censorship or protecting ANY company, but you must keep in mind our rules and BASIC HONESTY AND INTEGRITY when you decide to discuss information on this forum.

We will keep this thread open for a little while to answer any questions you may have about this situation. When it runs its course we will lock it.

    Thank you,
    The RDF Staff

Well this person certainly felt like being creative!

Interesting, a damn shame they chose to go down that path. A valube lesson on what not to do, if that wasn't obvious already!

Am I the only person who doesn't understand why they did it unless they were a literal paid shill?

This should be permanent ban. No questions asked. It ranks up there with stealing...

I have my suspicions who was behind it all, like I said, this is a cut-throat industry, and has been since the 90's.

This is the most popular Radar Detector forum in the U.S.. Didn't this guy realize that all the manufactures have people on this board. Maybe they're not members, but could be lurkers who read what's going on with the competition, and what users think of their and the competitors products.

Was it just me or did someone suggest BrewPub was really a K40 employee?
