I've had this happen a few times. The first time I heard the chirp but didnt know where it came from. I think this is a problem with Bluetooth LE communications but I'm unsure if its the app, phone or the V1 LE dongle.

When it happens, I can exit JBV1 but the display on by V1 stays dark. (Normally when I close JBV1 the V1 display will illuminate again.)

I have to power cycle my V1 to get it to return to normal and have JBV1 reconnect. However, JBV1 will continue to randomly chirp and turn the Priority Display blue again.

If I reboot my phone and power cycle the V1, all is well for a while but the chirp/blue thing eventually returns.

The phone I'm using is Samsung SM-J327V (Galaxy J3 Eclipse) running Andriod 7.0 patch level 5/1/2018.
JBV1 version 1.0.9

Thoughts?? Is my LE dongle flaking out?

Thinking this through after posting, it may be the Bluetooh module on the phone. The next time it happens, I'll try turning off bluetooth and then turning it back on again instead of rebooting the phone.

But I'd appreciate any other insight folks may have about this.

If the BT connection to your dongle is lost while in motion, JBV1 assumes you have not powered down the dongle or the V1 and attempts to reconnect. When this happens, you will hear that alarm sound and the alert screen bogey counter will turn blue. (FYI, if the connection is lost while stationary, JBV1 assumes you've powered everything down. The bogey counter still turns blue, but the app will then exit without trying to reconnect.)

Is this a new device, or have you been using it for a while with few problems? What else is it BT connected to?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to turn the V1 display back on with no functioning connection to the dongle. You can turn V1 off and then on again to get the display back on.

The phone is fairly new, purchased it from Verizon in Q4 of last year. The dongle was purchased in about Q2 of last year.

This phone is dedicated to use with my V1. I have nothing else connected to it. It doesn't even have a SIM installed so there's no cellular service.

** I should add that when this happens and the bogey counter turns blue, the app does not exit. It stays active while displaying the blue bogey counter and my V1 remains dark. If it weren't for the blue bogey counter, I wouldn't know there was a potential problem.

It will exit within a minute or so when you're moving. It tries twice to reconnect, with a timeout. It can't turn the V1 display back on with no connection.

Could be the phone, the dongle, or the wiring.

It happened again this morning. I let it stay blue to see if the app would exit but it never did; it stayed on for over 5 minutes until I closed it maually. I didnt have any more time to test some things but I did not reboot my phone just yet.

On the way home from work, I'll see if it gets into this state again rapidly as I expect it to do. If so, I'll try these things:

1) Can V1 Connect connect to the V1C-LE and control the V1 even though JBV1 seems to have trouble?
2) Does turning off the bluetooth radio and then turning it back on again restore normal operations for JBV1 without a phone reboot?

If you think of something else you'd be curious about, let me know and I'll queue it up.

Good plan. Was JBV1 in foreground or background?

The ESP Library handles all BT comm. V1 connect app probably doesn't use the public ESP Library as it exists on Github, so there's likely to be some differences. Let me know how it goes.

I've heard the chirp about 6 separate times lately but it didn't seem out of place during those times. (As in, I expected the loss of connection maybe)
I like the chirp noise. :)

I use it every day with my Pixel 2 XL, 20-25 minutes at a time, and I never hear the chirp (it never disconnects). No connection issues on a road trip to Concord (~2 hours each way) last month, either.

FYI, I think in my case I was causing the disconnects somewhat intentionally. I can't remember now what I was doing though.
How long has the chirp noise been in there @johnboy00? I haven't heard it until recently.

How long has the chirp noise been in there @johnboy00? I haven't heard it until recently.
It's been there for a little while. I didn't document that change, so I can't be too sure. Somewhere between 1.0.0 and 1.0.6.

Of course things have been working flawlessly ever since my last post. I've not rebooted my phone yet JBV1 has been able to connect and stay connected so far. It did spend ~9 hours closed and my V1 was off as well so maybe that length of downtime changed the scenario. I know that when this has happened while driving, I haven't been able to get JBV1 to stay connected very long without the phone reboot.

I'll just wait for the next time it happens and try the steps I mentioned to see if it helps isolate the problem area any more.

Wouldn't you know it, I'm getting the chirp. Just two or three times since the last JBV1 update. I think I have had a Huawei system update since that too.
No blue display though, just loss of mode display and muting is lost. A JBV1 restart fixes it.

If we're lucky, maybe VR will release an updated ESP Library before too long, but it may not come until a new product is announced.
