Hey guys! I'm thinking about upgrading my Escort 8500 x50 to a Uniden R3. I'm honestly still really happy with the performance of my 8500 but a gps enabled RD would be really nice. It seems like in general everyone is pleased with their R3, so I'm not too worried about the comparison of the two. I am curious of if anyone has heard any rumors of a hardware revision coming out soon. I watched vortex's June video and he mentioned that an R3 with arrows isn't in the near future. I'd be super bummed if I finally shell out some money for a new detector only to have a new one come out in two months haha.

There have been some rumors going around from a couple different manufacturers..... No confirmation yet.

On one hand it would suck to buy something and have something better come out right after but on the other hand, just like everything technological, if you keep waiting for the latest and greatest thing you'll never buy anything because it changes every year. Not only that but you could end up waiting for vaporware when you could have had a really good performing product all that time.

If it were me and I already had a detector that I was happy with I might personally wait for a bit to see what shakes out.

I will fully agree to that, but I will take that same $2 and say that one year from now we will all still be using our R1/R3 as our Uniden of choice.

Well, I'm not confident enough to take that bet, but, I wouldn't be surprised if they released it before then at the pace they have been going.

Oo the plot thickens.. I just hopped on amazon and the Escort Max 360 is $440. I know I posted this in the Uniden forum but what are your thoughts on the two compared?

The resale on used R3's is better than any other detector on the market. I would not worry about losing money on the R3 as its still the best performing detector on the market and it still has plenty of demand.

When a product comes out at $649 and its selling for $440 now you know the demand has fallen and there is reason for that.

Do you have the black X50 or the older silver X50? I have the silver - stored away. These things have no K filtering except TSR on the black X50 which is a delay for traffic sensors and not really a filter.

Super valid point!

I have a 8500 x50, the noise factor is why I'm looking to get a gps based RD.

The R3 is a great detector for a lot of people. We don’t know what the future holds, but Mike V would probably chuckle at that claim.

I wish he'd chuckle at: "There will be no V2 anytime soon."

Ha! V1 resale value would probably take a major hit if a “V2” came out that was visibly different. Like so many things in life, we won’t know until we know. But for now V1 holds the resale value crown.

I would agree with that. I just paid $405 for a 9 month old V1 with Saavy and iOS dongle.

Get an R3 and don't look back. It has a combination of range, filtering and user-adjustable settings that will knock your socks off. Will Uniden some day release a new model that will make the R3 obsolete? I would think that is highly likely. If you buy a new laptop today, in two years there will be new laptops that are far more capable than the one you bought. It is the life cycle of technology and there's nothing we can or should do about it. Hop on the R3 train and enjoy the ride. The jump from an 8500 to an R3 will shock you, in a good way. Best Radar Detectors is the place to buy from.

The arrows are nice to have without a doubt but the R3 is far more sensitive than the 360. The more important issue is that they have recently released a couple of firmware updated for the 360 which has introduced problems with the unit locking up and the user being unaware and unprotected. They have been trying to solve the lock up issue for months now but have not figured it out, and honestly I wonder if they ever will at this point. I run my 360 on the earlier firmware that does not lock up, but it is BSM filtering capabilities is limited and will drive you crazy if you drive in a somewhat populated area. I could updated to get better filtering, but then risk the lock up issue. I love the low speed muting option that the R3 provides as well over the 360. The R series is a great RD, it has been out just enough time that any bugs have been worked out and it is a very stable platform, with excellent customer support. Until Escorts firmware issues are resolved I would not consider a 360 unless arrows are an absolute must.
