I am looking for a solution for my now retired Escort 9500IX. I have already posted on the newbie section and received some great feedback. For the last few years I have worn out my right index finger pressing the mute button on my Escort live. I almost wish I could put K to sleep with all of the false warnings I was getting, not realizing that they were created by other cars and perhaps even my own. Now that I have learned that I have been limited because of my old technology I have decided to get with the times, however, I don't want whatever I choose to be outdated within the next couple of years. I do realize their is no foolproof future proofing, but if I am going to lay out $400 or more on a detector I would like it to last a little longer than my previous unit, otherwise I guess a lower budget detector may be the wiser choice.

My vehicles are currently leases, so I definitely want a W/S mount, however I do have a ceramic type of tint from Llumar (good to use with RD's) on each of the windshields that will prevent a suction cup mount, therefore, I would be left with Visor/Mirror/Dash. I know that laser is sporadically used once I enter the more populated areas that I travel on a daily basis (West Palm Beach, FL), but I have no desire to attach any countermeasures. Ka (mostly 34)is used locally and on the Highways throughout Florida. X never and K is the big enemy. It goes off too much and rarely if ever have I attributed it to a LEO. I am not an aggressive driver but I like to have a detector cover me when I sometimes exceed the PSL, especially on highways when I usually like to 9-14 over if in a hurry.

I don't see the need for Red light camera warnings (would never run one...just plain stupid), and don't see speed cams giving out tickets here in FL. I want a detector that will just shut up!!!!! I currently have a DFR7 (Costco deal and 90 days) that is too chatty even with the lockouts. I use waze on Android Auto to help with traps and so forth. I have used a Radenso XP briefly that seemed better than the DFR7 on BSM filtering, liked my experience with a Max 360 but could not tell if it was just asleep, though it did work nicely with Bluetooth and the escort app. A couple of months back used a R3 that I liked but cannot remember if it had many falses because it was my first non 9500IX experience. I guess that would only leave a V1 and a Radenso Pro M that I have no experience with. I have heard that the V1 is very noisy on K and gets many Laser falses as well, but it has its loyal followers and somewhat of a futureproof guarantee.

Please help in leading me to the best choice in an effective W/S Detector without all the BSM falsing that drives me nuts.

Thanks in advance for your assistance and guidance.

Uniden R3 set up as follows: Advanced mode with K band to 50%, TSF on, K filter on. Throw in a few lockouts and you've got an outstanding detector for busy, urban environments.

The Radenso Pro M has been pretty impressive. It can filter out Hondas and Acuras, unlike any other manufacturer. The lockouts finally stick now too and it looks like it may be the best in the filtering department. It's mainly GM BSM's that cause it to false, just like other detectors.

The latest Escorts are pretty good too, but when they do go off, they tend to go off full tilt like you got I/Owned which isn't great, plus the Max360/360c will sometimes lock up when detecting the signal. Either way, they can't filter out Hondas and Acuras like the Radenso can.

The R3 has a much better alert presentation than the Escorts, but it doesn't filter out as many vehicles. You can dial back the sensitivity which helps somewhat, but that's not actual filtering. That's just hampering the performance of the detector for the sake of quietness, but often times it is required. I run mine in City mode (10% sensitivity... Edit: Correction, 18% sensitivity) since there isn't much K band in use or Advanced mode 70% in day-to-day driving in new areas where there may be K band in use.

I'm a fan of the V1/JBV1 combo. I think it gives you the most information of any detector while still being extremely quiet to falses. The built in K filter, TMF2, is excellent, and pairing it with an app like JBV1 or V1Driver for autolockouts and intelligent muting (box, speed, etc) really pushes it to the top.

If you're not interested in pairing with a phone and want more of a stand-alone WS mount, the BSM filter on the Radenso Pro M is incredible. Stationary K falses still need to be manually locked out like on the R3, but it handles K falses from vehicles almost perfectly. It's also extremely tiny.

The K filter in the R3 is good, but I've found even with K adv @ 40%, K filter On, and TSF On, I constantly have to mute it in traffic. I can certainly see how that would get annoying in the environment you drive in.

@Vortex City mode on the R1/R3 drops K band to ~18%: www.rdforum.org: Uniden R1/R3 Advanced Mode Sensitivity Calculations

    RADENSO PRO M. !!!! X 1000

I have been running the Remote equivalent DSP of the R3 and bar none the Pro M is light years quieter. !!

The alerts are k band and highly annoying. I keep accidentally muting the detector. I look down an d@mn MUTE on again. Cause the K Band just plain falses much in City Settings.

My Pro M does NOT do that ... Blessed K Band Silence.

V1’s native K filtering was improved in recent models and is probably now among the best. That said, it was still a big nuisance. I’ve been using V1 Driver on iPhone (but V1D or JBV1 on Android are probably comparable) to reduce noise to probably less than any other alternatives. And, the developers are busy working to further reduce falses without increasing risk. I haven’t had a confirmed K from a LEO in a while and, if you’re sure they aren’t using K, disabling K and X bands would largely solve the problem.

Thanks Vortex, I really admire the work that you do!.... very impressive!
Everybody so far responding all like either the R3, Pro M or the V1. I would like your opinion on the V1, for use in my situation, as it used to be your main set up not that many years ago and I don't think that it has changed all that much since.

Fantastic detector too, but I haven't run mine in a while. Most of the cool stuff is on Android at the moment and several times I've run a second phone, mount, and power cable just to run Android, but I don't like the dual phone setup for several different reasons. I could run it with V1Driver on iOS, but I miss having the frequency display right on the front of the detector and seeing all the blinking LED's during the many false K band alerts (even if V1Driver mutes them) gets annoying. It's nice having a detector that visually quiets down and grays out the screen or whatever when detecting a locked out signal. I believe there's an option to turn off the V1's display when it's detecting a false and turn it on when there's a legit alert, but I always preferred having the CD on my dash when running the V1 and I don't think the ability to turn the CD on and off like that is available. So it's more of a matter of personal preference for me. I prefer the experience I get with other detectors which is why I spend more time running them, but I still think the V1 is a great detector and fully recommend it.

I run an R3, and still haven't figured out K band to get it to quiet down. Same driving environment as you here in Clearwater/Largo. That being said I went with the R3 based on what I read here, and based on price range. Either three that you have listed will be a good choice either way!

I have to second this: Uniden R3 ,has the best performance BY FAR of any WS mount we've tested and with the right settings, its downright quiet and you dont need to tether it to a phone. If you feel tehneed to tether, then the V1 with JBV1 is a good second, BUT dont expect R3 type performance. BUT, you'll get arrows. OR, you can wait and see what Escort is bringing out in the form of a new Escort Redline EX 360 (which will also have arrows and NO tethering required) ???

Remember, not only are the arrows useful to interpret alarms but they are associated with rear antennas which will result in improved rear sensitivity vs. any forward only detector. If you have a strengthening rear alarm while driving, you’d better downshift and get near PSL soon because LEO is catching up with you. Harder to make that inference timely without the arrows and with less rear range.

    I appreciate all the advice so far. I think that it might be wise to wait and see what the latest firmware update to the R3 brings. Based on my needs and advice given so far I would have them ordered like this;
1a. Pro M (don't like the small buttons, barrel connector that cant mute)
1b. R3 (wait and see firmware update)
    2. V1 (complicated, but those arrows are nice, I guess)
a distant 3. anything Escort.....just don't buy in to their shenanigans anymore.

Plus with the Pro M you are future proofed !! :p

MRCT MRCD GATSO !! Good Lockouts.
    Extremely customizable !!

D@mn Quiet in City/Suburban Settings by DESIGN !!

Acuras and Hondas do NOT false on BSM s !! On the Pro M

Even R3 V1 etc False K Band BSM on Acuras and Hondas

RADENSO ADDED A SEPARATE BSM CHIP strictly to future proof BSM Falses. !!

The Pro M is TINY TINY Hides in plain sight and has better off-axis than the Redline. Plus the text is highly Readable mph time etc at a glance !!

I have been running the pro M for about 10 months. I saw the development of it. The radenso team worked extremely hard to get it to the point its at right now

There are features on it I would like changed (barrel plug) or features to be added. But none of that takes away from how awesome the radenso is and performs Its a truly an awesome detector that I set it up and never have to touch it again unless I want to try new stuff. If a friend wants to borrow it for a trip. It’s just unplug and plug it in and go.

Since firmware us9. I have about 2000km or so on it. All city or freeways. No highway use at it all and I have 0 bsm or leaky detector falses.

With my k level at 7. I still pick up the 200+ speed signs around the city at a good distance along with picking up door openers. All which I lock out. I have probably used the lockout button over 300 times and everyone single and I do mean everyone has been locked out on first attempt with the button (old pro m ver 1. I was maybe 50/50 with lockouts)

Once on my the freeways. My autocity levels are off (speed setting 0 80 kmh) so it’s basically running like in hwy mode and it’s dead quiet.

I was a big fan of the v1 and then a big fan of the uniden lrd950.

Even though I miss the arrows of the V1 and the super ka range of the lrd950

The way the radenso performs with the quietness easily makes me chose the pro M first.

But I ll say this everytime. The ppl at radenso are awesome ppl. They read up on what ppl are saying and they respond. Sometimes it’s what we want to hear and sometimes it’s not. But they there

there is a mute button on it.
