Why do people think that a metal enclosure is a premium? Metal enclosures allow more heat to build up and is also more conductive to corrosion so metal is not usually a better enclosure for sensors. AL's used to use Metal sensors many years ago and they moved to conductive polymer for better longevity.

I never said it is better.
I was just trying to say LI is buying stuff from China again. Not manufacturing in Croatia anymore.

Best radar, id like to thank you again for that uniden r3 deal! !!! It paid for itself so many times and prevented a trooper from the instant on from behind trick. I love that and waze! But yeah, stinger wanted to integrate thier systems with automotive manufacturers and put a lot of expectations on cliff. The automotive industry is very demanding on engineers.

Because iPhones? (Don't look at me I use Android)

I get where you're coming from, living where I do and seeing salt eat away at stuff but as long as the aluminum is anodized it should be okay as far as corrosion goes. It would also help if the screws holding everything together had a coating with similar nobility to aluminum.

It's true that aluminum is also more conductive to heat. Whether or not that's a good thing depends on if the temperature on the inside of the sensor is higher or the temperature on the outside of the sensor is higher. It can act as a heat sink or heat soak. Hopefully being in a grill it would be the former rather than the latter.

On the good side, aluminum should be less prone to cracking under impact or ingress of water turning to ice. An aluminum construction is also more conducive to the sensor being rebuilt or pieces being replaced in the field.

Time will tell if it's a good design.

Well total heat transfer coefficient is radically altered when using a higher quality/proper alloy.
The proper aluminum alloy "mix" is one of the best heat reflectors there is. I also subscribed to the aluminum will be hotter than plastic but was quickly made a believer. In the hot ass Texas sun.....sitting in direct Texas right now 101f sunlight you can put your hand on the metal head and it is cooler than the grill chrome.
I applaud innovation and the efforts to get longer life out of heads in harsh environment like Alaska, Canada and yes hot Texas dust blasting environment.
We will soon see how these various efforts play out in the real world.
    Soon.

Just before the ""CLIFF" DIVE ""
    ...

Haha I just kill myself ...

i bought the Latest Greatest 8.9 heads dual diode 115 watt sensors ((all 4)) for around $2,500.
I sold the whole system for $250 to @UsernameGoesHere. He was banned shortly thereafter.

Point is these are MOST LIKELY NOT NEW DESIGN !!!

IF THERE firmware and cpu are redesigned then there is gonna be some d@mn happy peeps out there that bought these systems for next to nothing.

Btw: i was just paying it back to fellow RDF rs Family !!

    My .02 cents

If he's working on a new product I wish him well and hope he re-engages RDF.

I bet he'll be back if the LI thing gets serious. All we really have at this point is some vague text pretty much. I'm not holding out at all.

I moved him back to his old username because he didn't want to be associated with Stinger. I gave him the same exact properties and like Stinger.

Well its a good thing they did!!

Now AL sensors last up to almost 2 years before water intrusion issues...talk about longevity!

Lets see the conversation 2 years from now. While a few people have had some issues with ALP sensors others are running 5 years on the same original sensors. When you are selling hundreds of thousands of sensors people don't go around posting all their positive experiences but the few that have issues are very vocal.

I like to see competition but I would also like to see affordable competition. Making something new and making it more expensive than what's currently proven will be tough sell.

You talking about the pricing that was on LI's site for like 20 minutes yesterday? That was totally bogus geeks playing around on the website.

I agree completely. I know I wouldn't buy it for sure much like why I waited for the r3 and the test before I got it . Someone needs to fill the Average Joe price base and will win in the end.

The only issues I've read about had to do with people pressure washing the RX sensors during car washes, which degraded the outer sealant over a period of time. And then the pressure washing continued until it penetrated the internal seal and allowed water intrusion.

It doesn't really sound like there's much of an issue with hardware as long as the heads stay sealed.

Sorry about the off topic response. I know we're talking about the 2018 LI pricing.
