When you say that V1 saved you on laser, what do you mean? I thought laser detection was just merely a ticket notifier. Heck Monday I had a LEO on a bike shoot laser at the poor fellow to my right on Okeechobee Blvd and not a peep on the Dfr7 I was running (Visor mount). I actually thought he had me, but he was targeting the right hand lane and I was in the middle. I Don't see how a V1 could have saved me if his aim was in the middle...just saying.

Driving eastbound 6th Ave. S. in Lake Worth near John Prince Park in morning traffic. There is a bridge and drop in speed limit. Approaching the bridge, intermittent laser alerts. I crested the bridge at PSL to see LEO with laser in the median and an accomplice flagging most traffic into a church parking lot where revenue agents are completing the extortion paperwork. The scatter picked up by V1 warned me and I escaped. As I said previously, in suburban settings, other traffic can be your salvation. Had I been alone or first in a batch of cars, I’d have been toast. If I had less laser sensitivity, it might not have worked out so well.

Has that happened on more than that one occurrence?

There at them many reports of the V1s ability to pick up laser scatter / reflections

for laser sensitivity the V1 is probably the best, that said it also is prone to some laser falsing as it is sensitive. While it can possibly save you from a laser ticket under the right circumstances I certainly wouldn't count on it as a solid laser solution, still kinda falls into the luck category. for laser protection go ALP (or if they test well the new TMG system) that will protect you from laser even if you are the first car in line and ALP is far more sensitive than any RD and doesn't false :)

Is this a common trap? if so I may have to come crash it, I don't see nearly enough laser on my commute.

so since you have ad the DFR7 you have a decent idea of uniden's filtering, the R series does slightly better and you have the ability to manually adjust K band sensitivity to reduce the falses. supposedly the DFR7 and the XP are pretty close in performance and false filtering (with maybe a slight edge to the XP on filtering, but they generally both performed similarly. is your DFR7 on the current firmware, if not update it and see how that helps it. also make sure you are in city mode in the more urban areas, it will reduce Kband but leave KAband at full sensitivity. I haven't had the V1 but have heard it is perhaps a bit quieter on falses when paired with the correct app on a smartphone such as JBV1 or V1 Driver and tuned in to your preferences. it will generally give you plenty of warning on radar down here especially in urban area's. I drive in the more rural area's and they love I/O out here so it's not got enough range for my needs. We are expecting some improvement in falseing from the Uniden R series in the next firmware version so we shall see how that does, it should be out pretty soon and will be getting tested thoroughly by RDF members.

Yes.... LEO's around here rarely get you on K or Ka......they prefer to pick you off one by one when there is a need to fill their coffers.

Funny you say that. My unit came pre-installed with firmware 1.12. It wasn't living up to my expectations so I figured I would do a firmware update. On Unidens site I downloaded the latest firmware and tool and after the update I am now at 1.10. I don't know if the original 1.12 was an error or what?

I’m surprised how little Lidar I encounter. Mostly C/O Ka. I guess they have no trouble meeting their quotas so why bother doing more.

In my quest for the best solution in South FL with maximum protection with minimum falses would still lead to those aforementioned 3 (R3, Pro M, and V1). And I guess you could throw the Max 360 into the mix if escort ever gets their act together. They all price out close enough to each other so it will come down to the inherent trade-offs that each possess. I suppose in the meantime I can keep researching and take the advice from this forum and wait and see if the R3 brings more to the table with their latest firmware.

I did find a brave trooper standing in the I-95 breakdown lane with laser at night. With all the traffic, I had plenty of warning.
Laser is better handled by jammers but, so far, I’ve been lucky. Again, other traffic helps provide scatter and tie up LEO ticketing them. You need to be smart, look for clues, and frankly, be lucky. If you see everyone braking as they cross a bridge or round a turn, likely there’s a reason. Nothing will completely protect you. Your aim is to reduce the risk to a level your license, insurance, and wallet can tolerate. I got nailed by aircraft on the turnpike about 12 years ago in St. Lucie County. Hard to protect against that but I will survive a ticket that infrequently. If your record is clean, lawyers usually can resolve a rare ticket without points and without impacting your record. Won’t cost less but your insurance won’t be effected.

this is usually ture, I find mostly C/O KA on the highway and it's like shooting fish in a barrel as so few people use any form of protection, though up in st lucie I have twice int he last couple of months found them shooting I/O KA, i have plenty of warning via the R1. oddly enough int he rural area's I have been finding a lot of I/O lately and it's not good. I would prefer laser to I/O any day. so far I have only seen laser from Moto units on surface streets.../

The R3 would be an excellent choice!

Interesting graph of frequency distribution I’ve been encountering. The K’s are falses which generally were muted.
