It is speed week in NY = Cuomo sponsored increased speed enforcement statewide.

I'm in upstate running an R3. X off, K wide, Ka segements 2,4,5,6,8.

I passed a mobile speed side on the roadside and the R3 didn't alert. Went off make times later for K and Ka signals.

Just wondering if the mobile sign might have been running X, laser, ...? Just curious. It looked relatively new.

    Thanks.

the R series often filters out speed signs to reduce false alerts (as the speed signs don't issue citations) or it's possible it's running on a really low K band frequency outside the range the R3 is scanning. most likely it was filtered. if you wanted to test it, you could turn off all filters, and go Ka wide, K wide at max sensitivity and see if you get an alert. if not then it's probably out of the frequency range thats covered under the R3's K band as legit police radar only goes so low, but there is a little more spectrum below that that some of these signs use.

Great information, thank you. New to radar detectors and trying to learn as much as possible.

At least you don't need 2-3 GPS lockouts consecutively to block out the signal. They just love putting them on the longest straights where detection range is nuts. And the sign misses me half the time and the other times it flashes error readings.:shifty:

This is the truth... I have to us three on a sign I pass daily, and even then depending on weather and scenario I get a chirp out of the R3 for the stinking sign.
