Like most all RDF members, I’m segged Ka 2/5/8. However, today I got a KA alert and it was displaying as 34.023, well outside of 2. It persisted with this alert for about 30 seconds before I killed the power and restarted it. Alert did not return but I was mobile so...

I thought I had been seeing some strange behavior lately, so I checked to see if I had somehow un-segged myself, but I was still in KASW off, 2/5/8 on, rdr off, etc.

Second issue that makes me wonder if I have a problem is periodically (monthly perhaps), I get stuck in a K band announcement loop, where the unit just repeatedly announced K Band over and over and over and can only be stopped by power cycle.

    Any ideas on root causes?

There has been documented cases of Belscorts Bel and Escort units that were segged over sweeping and alerting / reporting frequencies outside of the band being swept. Also your spec display is not as accurate as a Frequency counter and could be reporting the frequency being picked up a bit off frequency. Those are 2 possibilities that could cause that ka alert outside of the swept band.

The K band loop is very strange and I have never experienced that in many years of using Magnum/ STI Driver units. I would send it in to be checked out, because the k band issue you are experiencing may be a symptom of a larger issue.

I got a similar alert a long time ago and I thought I had segmented the unit also. Through Escort Live I hit the segments I wanted, but left the Ka as on - which overroad the segmenting and it alerted to all bands.

Check the detector (and/or live) again to see if you actually have it segged.. That is all I can think of for this issue and I know you said you checked those items already, but I checked mine a few times before I realized what I had done.

I would try a factory reset first and if that does not work - send it back to Bel as freebird suggests.

I have had to send mine back 3-4 times since 2007. One time it was alerting to K band constantly, even when out in the woods. This was before band seg was in the firmware. I had the same problem with a Stir that kept alerting to K band and a brand new Redline that Larry flashed the band seg firmware and sent to me. One detector was replaced and the other 2 had the solder reflowed on the board. The Sti/Magnum had the reflow twice over the years.

Yeah I don’t have live, but I triple checked that I was segged properly.

And I thought about the over scanning too Freebird, and I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I think when I looked it was like almost a segment 4 alert, so it was wayyyy over a bleed into seg 3.

I’m debating sending it in, but with the massive leaps of Uniden even since I picked my Magnum up a year and a half ago, it’s tempting to just put the fee towards an R1/R3 and move on with the times. I love that Magnum and its paid for itself many times over, but some K filtering would be really nice. The fact that I do mainly rural FL interstates with relatively low BSM levels has been the only saving grace for it thus far.

I think I was actually in your neck of the woods earlier this week Freebird.

Can't speak to the oversweep issue, but the last time I had a detector doing that kind of stuff (or locking up on K) I had to send it in and iirc they replaced the antenna and some other thing because there was an issue. Worked fine ever since that.

I had a beltronics STI magnum and a year or two into use it did the k band announcement loop, I recorded a quick video of it. If i remember correctly i had a quick k band detection and it went back to standby and was stuck in loop, fixed by a power cycle. This only happened one time.

I handed the unit over to my dad after I had it updated with the segmentation update, and a year or so later the unit would not pick up k or ka band. I sent the unit to bel and they repaired it and all was well. At this point the RD still works fine but I have to disable laser on it as it alerts all the time to false laser. I would be driving and start picking up a ka signal and usually not long after I get alerted to KA the unit would flip to laser alert and be stuck on laser for a while, sometimes requiring a power cycle to get it to stop.
