Yes, I have to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. The standard bluetooth connection to SYNC3 won't allow CarPlay functionality. Do you feel like maybe I should sever the bluetooth connection?
All mainstream versions of CarPlay more or less right now are wired only. Bluetooth connection is automatically turned off when CarPlay is activated (plugged in), so no, you should not have to unpair it.

Make sure Use HFP, Duck Music, Pause Spoken and Use Speaker Only are all Off (simplest config) in Sound Settings in V1Driver. That is the default, so if you never touched any of that you should be good.

It would be really helpful if you could confirm how Waze and Google Maps is working, is it's audio coming through and no issue? Is it doing anything similar? Apple Maps is a special case on CarPlay.

If Waze and Google Maps works fine and V1Driver does not, I need a log.

Goto Debug Settings in V1Driver.
Turn On "Enable Logging"
Enter 2 in "Set Mask To"
That enables Verbose Logging, especially around audio.

Now repeat the problem.

Goto Back into Debug Settings
Click "Send Log File"
Do NOT back out, the log file is immediately flushed the moment you click "Send Log File".
Please include your Forum Name, Brief description, and approx time the "FM Started Up".

Alright, I will test this out and enable logging just in case.

Thank you for your diligence!

To clarify what I was asking about in the last thread, was originally (before I installed the new version of SYNC3 which supports CarPlay), I used to only have available a bluetooth connection to SYNC3. Now that I have CarPlay available, I must plug in, in order to utilize it. I have left the bluetooth pairing in place as a backup for any moment I'm not plugged in as to let me still answer a phone call. For some reason, bluetooth WILL still pair with a CarPlay connection made.

Do you feel like I should just sever that bluetooth connection altogether to allow for better testing?

It’s standard to leave it for exactly the reason you describe. It’s automatically turned off when you plug in.

Alright, I was just trying to eliminate that as being the cause of this FM radio situation.

Did the log show anything helpful? Let me know if you need more logs of that happening as I can replicate easily and anytime.

So, I've made some more observations with a short road trip this weekend. Bare in mind that I typically drive my car with no music on because MUSTANG! :)

SYNC3 will go start up FM radio after a V1Driver voice alert. This get negated if I open a CarPlay app that uses some sort of audio, (e.g. Music, Amazon Music, Sirius/XM etc) start it then pause it for silence. After getting a V1Driver voice alert, the system stays quiet and no FM radio.

Next observation is before plugging in directly for CarPlay, and only having a bluetooth connection active, the V1driver voice alerts come through SYNC3 as a momentary "call" thus sending the alert over the car speakers.

I'm thinking that there might be some good info here to help figure this issue out. That and I'm positive once apple opens up CarPlay to app developers, this will no longer become a problem.

This type of info is great. If you could check how google maps behaves it would be very helpful too.

Don't count on Apple Opening up Car Play.

Turns out my very next door neighbor in NH works at a small used car lot (with recent model years and a tendency towards fords).
The owner of this lot (who is like 4 houses over that I'm friendly with) also owns a full ford dealership (or two) quite aways from here,
I think he rotates a few new fords through this little local used lot, it currently has a brand new Taurus with Sync 3, which I was surprised to see there.
But my neighbor isn't around this weekend, I think she is down in MA :)

My next door neighbor 2 houses over in MA also works for a ford dealership, but I don't know him as well.

So I should be able to get my hands on a Sync3, one way or the other.

Also, I'm currently downloading the SYNC3 v3 update now and I will install it today or tomorrow in my car and see if somehow it affects this issue in any way.

I must admit, since installing SYNC3 v3.0, I have no FM Radio On issues thus far! SYNC3 v2.2 was apparently the culprit as I can see it at the moment. :woop:

And now a few days in.... still no FM Radio coming on!!

EDIT: I'm still counting on Apple opening up CarPlay in the future and when they do, I want to see V1Driver on my screen!! :)
