As many of you know, I run both a C50 (very small RLC alert unit) and a C150. As an early adopter of the Cheetah mirror many years ago, I am used to Cheetah providing regular updates (Trinity database) for their products. Regular meaning at least twice a month or more if warranted. Lately, my units have been squawking at me to "Please update me at Speedcheetah.com" . This alert comes on automatically every month if the unit has not been updated in 30 days or more and there's NO WAY to turn it off in Preferences. This past two months in particular and actually (since summer 2017 ) , Cheetah has been very SLOW in providing database updates for the units. Anyone notice the same?? Up until two days ago, they were still on 8031 (March 2018 update). My units have been squawking since mid April to update them and I was unable to do so. Today I see they updated the database, BUT they are now on April 2018 (now 8041) and my units are now squawking again for updates two days after updating to 8041.

    Thoughts???

I've had a C50 since about 2009 and really liked it until recently. I do an update every couple of months but don't pay much attention to the number of the update.
    Anyway...

Recently we drove from Washington DC to Indianapolis IN, along I-70 which goes about through the middle of OH and IN. Literally, all across OH and IN, every couple of miles I'd get the warning "Police patrol area, watch speed." Considering how brutal those states are about traffic enforcement, there is some validity to the warnings everywhere. But a warning which is repeated too often becomes no warning at all, I just ignored them after a while and relied on our other devices.

Worse yet were the false red light camera warnings. I've often experienced false warnings on Interstates that went over or parallel to a local road with a stop light and presumably a camera there. That's understandable. But time after time after time on this trip, we'd be driving along out in the middle of nowhere, with no crossroads or parallel roads anywhere nearby, and I'd get the red light camera alert and warning that I was exceeding the speed limit of 45 or 55 or whatever.

Basically, the C50 was a useless PITA on this trip.
I like to keep each of my warning systems separate, and was going to buy a newer Cheetah just because this one has over 9 yrs/100k miles and can't last forever. But this experience is changing my mind.

One note, the literature I can find on my C50 says it uses the Trinity database, and newer units brag that they use the Trinity 2 database.
Is there any difference? Has anyone else had the frequent false red light warnings like I described?

Nobody else has the "false red light camera" problem, or nobody uses a Cheetah any more?
