Hello everyone, much like the subject suggests, I'm new to the V1Driver app and would like to know if there are any good tips/tricks and setup that I should be doing as I get familiar with this app.

I had only used a V1 back in the mid 90's and am picking up a brand new one for my Mustang (per wife's request haha!). I never had the ability to connect a V1 to a smartphone back then because, well... they didn't exist! This is a whole new ballgame for me. Any pertinent info will be greatly appreciated!

First just connect and begin using it with default settings. This will help immediately, GPS lockout learning will begin and after a few days that will further quiet your ride. As you read and learn you will decide on your choices for audio and screen reporting. At some point, you’ll want to use V1 Connect app to set up custom sweeps which will improve range and further reduce falses. As you gain experience, you will find numerous configuration options you may want to tweak. There are several instructional videos and a synopsis by Vortex you should check out. The iPhone and Android versions are close enough that articles for one are usually helpful for the other. Don’t forget that tool tips are everywhere.

Android or iOS?

Android requires a little bit setup on the Bluetooth Page that depend on the environment you run in and what you want.

You also might want to look here v1driver.com: Setup Custom Sweeps on V1 for setting up the V1 itself.

Android or iOS?

I'm on iOS as well as just placed an order for a new V1. So I should be installing it and getting it in use by next weekend.

I'd like to know more about custom sweeps as that is uncharted territory for me. I'll check out that link you just posted.

I have a lot do to yet. I got to use the brand new V1 once on the way into work last weekend and then on the drive home yesterday. I haven't had time to setup the custom sweeps yet, nor do I even understand them. LOL! Also not sure how to respond to V1Driver when it asks about keeping or suppressing a function as it is all relatively new to me. Last time I used a V1 was back in the late 90's and we didn't have all this fun stuff to play with

Keep - means, keep repeating the suggestion (next time I connect).
Suppress - means, suppress the suggestion and stop bugging me.

If you reset to "Factory Settings" in V1Driver the "suppressed" suggestions will come back.

So you can suppress them all for now. And perhaps reset to factory settings once you are comfortable.

Most of those suggestions are based on setting up your V1 as I suggested here v1driver.com: Setup Custom Sweeps on V1 which has more explanation.

Congratulations. Don’t get overwhelmed. You can start off using it plug and play. As you get familiarity you’ll find numerous tweaks, etc. you’ll want to do. Enjoy a safer and peaceful ride.

Remember that device learning only occurs during driving with the V1 linked to V1 Driver. For this reason, always have your setup active while driving, even if you don’t think you need protection.

A useful simple trick. Place a point of interest pin at known red light cameras. V1 Driver will then give you a reminder as you approach them.

When it comes to custom sweeps, it sometimes helps to understand that it's simply a frequency range from low to high. The common frequencies are 33.8, 34.7, and 35.5. (sometimes others as well)
All a custom sweep does is configure the V1 to focus on a subset of it's total reception abilities.
A sweep for 34.7 might be defined as 34.6 to 34.8 so that anything close to 34.7 will be detected. Anything out of that range will not even be scanned for.

And... The primary reason your doing that is to allow you to shut Off the "slow" Ka-Guard filter.

Quick question... for setting up the custom sweeps, am I to add the 4 or 5 sets of sweeps that you have shown in this link? Or is there a comprehensive list of sweeps to add?
The left side is the default 4 Euro Sweeps you’ll see a new profile defaults to. You want to make it look like the 3 sweeps on the right. There is an green arrow showing the flow of this to that.

Got it! Thank you... I got it all setup last night. It is definitely much quieter now. It'll take a little bit, but I'm slowly understanding all this and making sense of it.

Is there reasonable possibility that a LEO's radar gun will be out of spec far enough to be go undetected by a custom sweep.

Of course. How reasonable, depends on how tight you sweep and your locale (how loose).

I don’t know the exact details, but a ticket is invalid in most states if it’s that far out. Except NY. Do your own diligence.

There is probably 100 threads on it.

Same as what segments should I run in ... state for some of the other radar detectors.

Is it a reasonable possibility that you miss an I/O or tricky terrain shot early enough with Ka Guard On (not custom swept). Yes.
