V1 arrows in my case.

I'm merging from 595W onto the 595W Express lanes.

The V1 catches a whiff of Ka .... from behind. Naturally my first thought had been that it was from ahead. After all, this is essentially the beginning of the Express westbound direction.

Now TWO signals from behind.

I crest a peak. V1 ramps up.

I had immediately looked behind but still only see the same two, obviously non-police, vehicles, probably a 1/3 of a mile back, with some dots further behind.

All these people were merging on from the FL Turnpike. From the point where the flyover starts to where the on-ramp merges onto 'my' part of the 595W Express is about 1.25 miles.

I'm doing 70.0001 mph. A Porsche that had merged on with me passes me, a couple of other vehicles as well. Now I'm the only one who had come from the regular part of 595.

V1 continues ramping up. I intentionally slow down further.

This is my first real alert since getting the V1. Being so new to the RD game I wanted to see some results. False alarms or legit?

V1 continues ramping up. I'm thinking it's that cruise control radar, the one that wants you to move at everyone else's speed, as a late model SUV is getting much closer.

The V1 is nearly pegged, the SUV passes.

STILL showing 2 Ka alerts behind.

I slow down even more! About 55 now, in a 70 hehe, in the right lane and no one directly behind me or even approaching.

I really want to see whats up lol. The V1 is really hot now and I think I can see roof ornaments on several of the cars behind me. (the sun was in our faces so it made for good visibility behind)

Finally I can make out an FL state trooper and he passes me. But apparently he's not running radar.

STILL two alerts behind.

As the 595W splits into 75 and 75 Express I take the flyover to the Express part, south, and I can finally make out the two other Troopers (that made 3 total lol) taking the other route. The V1 quickly quiets down as the line-of-sight separates.

So a legit alert!

Without the arrows I would not have considered anything from behind, especially given the cars that were passing me, with no obvious pursuit from the Troopers.

I'm guessing they were running hot looking for those running 85+. :D

So the arrows were nice to see where the threat was. But since speeding cars drove by you with no pursuit action. Were you ever in danger?

The world will never know because he didn't have to find out the hard way!

An enjoyable read, thanks for posting that! Had me hooked and I'm glad to see the V1 served you well. You should consider pairing it with one of the apps (V1-Driver or JBV1) for automated GPS muting of false signals.

You slowed down to 55 in a 70? Why?

Because ... SCIENCE!

The pack merging from the Turnpike was taking forever to catch up with me lol.

Heck, I’ve come to a complete stop on these Express lanes around 10 pm (not another vehicle behind you for several minutes) just to play with acceleration timers and such :D

Good story. I like your speed of 70.0001 ! The more info you have the better decisions you can make.
Now about stopping on the expressway.................

I drove 595 for years back and forth, they had some good hiding spots!

I do like the arrows and well, just gives you extra piece of mind with an encounter.

He hasn't yet learned to travel at a speed that keeps the alert steady and weak, no ramp up.
The joy of arrows.

Arrows are nice but I'll take range over it any day. PSL+40

With experience you'll find them useless.

Orientation, Arrows, Ramp up, and the Bogie counter. It's just about the perfect detector if they'd bump up the range. I also like a frequency counter.

As a stand-alone without an app. I would argue it’s far from a perfect detector and would throw it out the window if k band was on

I will say. With the addition of the app. Even without the range of the R3. It’s more than adequate

If I never got the lrd950. I would have never saw how far ka could be picked up.

With that being said. I have moved on from the V1 and wouldn’t consider going back unless mike came out with something revolutionary to change the radar detector market just like he did with the V1

I'm not sure if there has been testing in this area, but I would love to see how a sensitive detector like the r3 etc would do from the rear compared to the v1 or m360.

great story, thank you for sharing. it had me sitting on the edge of my seat. You lay out stories very well.

There are times arrows would be nice. In fact, last night I picked up an alert that was in front of me, same lane. I'm glad I decided to wait before speeding up. It would have been nice to know if it was fore or aft. I still use my V1 with an app if I'm just driving around town.

TXCTG did it! www.rdforum.org: TXCTG - Bergheim Equalizer Curve w/Bonus Rear Detection - 2017-06-11

Look, here's the bottom line. If a detector has a forward facing horn only, great. But even with lucky reflections with the most sensitive windshield mount detectors we've ever seen, you're never going to be even close to the results of having a rear horn. Whether and how much it matters to you is a topic for another thread. Arrows are addictive; in some situations they're they're nice to have while in others they're a lifesaver. Most can go their whole lives without worrying too intensely about arrows in any detector. But maybe one day we'll see Uniden or others step up to the plate and give us some more choices with rear horns. Until then, no, there's no substitute for a rear horn if you want to detect what's coming up behind you.
Would be cool to do more though, especially with the new FW on the Rs.

You should try a Uniden R1/R3. There are times arrows would be nice. In fact, last night I picked up an alert that was in front of me, same lane. I'm glad I decided to wait before speeding up. It would have been nice to know if it was fore or aft. I still use my V1 with an app if I'm just driving around town.

I ran my lrd950 instead of my v1 and now run my radenso pro M. I’m getting to the point where watching the ramp up and signal strength. I can tell where the threat is coming from. I still would prefer to have arrows. But at this point. I wouldn’t go back to the V1 unless mike makes a detector that’s a game changer

It's horses for courses. A 12 gauge doesn't have the range of an AR15, but you'll get more ducks with it.
