I dont think you will ever find the "best" as @Jag42 just mentioned...you get into environmental issues with all detectors. Folks get the R3 and expect 45 mile detection cuz that is what the read from some guy in Arizona and in Colorado they only get 1 mile so they think their detector is "broken".....
    With that said...
I do believe in the archives there is some testing on various V1 sweeps configs...let me go look around....

Yes sir, completely agree with the great analytical work, but as best I can tell, its in theory. What I'm proposing is that a test team(s) put these through their paces with several V1s to see what makes a difference. In other words, prove/disprove the theory.

Actually don't mean to nitpick, but the "simple sweeps" profile in YaV1 covers 107Mhz/+133Mhz for 34.7, and -106Mhz/+115Mhz for 35.5. 33.8 forces sweeps of that bandwidth and we cannot alter them (although one could add an extra 33.8 sweeps if one so desires).

And those simple sweeps offer adequate coverage for "most" U.S people, so for testing purposes, we should at least be testing with what is adequate for most people in the U.S. And 50Mhz isn't it. The east coast guys and some other areas in the U.S need a wider top end of 34.7. (I personally have seen 34.833), but those extra Mhz doesn't have a huge negative impact anyway.

Now if you're talking about adding redundant sweeps of +-50Mhz on top of the simple sweeps, that's perfectly fine. But there's no guarantee that's going to add range because some testing has shown that adding additional sweeps HURTS range.

    extra sweeps hurt range.

But let's get real regarding the performance improvements when one custom sweeps versus A-mode Ka Guard OFF.

Yes, they can/do/mostly add extra range compared to A-mode Ka guard off. And the reason is simple: smaller bandwidth to scan. It's about 600Mhz less, or around 70% less than the Ka bandwidth that A-mode would scan. As a result, the V1 gains range to both C/O and I/O signals.

BUT, on tough courses, sometimes even custom sweeping doesn't improve range much over default A-mode settings with Ka Guard left ON! And sweeping certainlyi doesn't bring performance up to M3 standards. The V1 is simply a less sensitive detector. For eg:

sweeping sometimes doesn't add that much over default settings.

I think the accepted fact on the forum is that the BULK of added range comes from turning Ka Guard off if/when in A-mode. Custom sweeping in Euro-mode with Ka Guard off is icing on the cake, but sweeping tighter bandwidth isn't responsible for the significant range gains we see in testing. The gains are a couple/few hundred feet on the average in the tests I've done.

Perhaps I've forgotten, but I don't recall any test showing thousands of feet gains by customs sweeping versus A-mode Ka Guard off. Someone post it up if there is such a test.

Yeah he really should send it back. Or maybe we get a few V1s on the same course and see how broken it really is. I'll probably be doing an EX shootout (if I can get enough volunteers) so maybe do the V1 testing at the same time.

I agree a properly swept V1 is better than an improperly swept one. I just took it that you meant that I had set it up improperly, and that's just not the case.

Here's one test I did that showed the gains of adding a redundant 34.7 sweep only gained 19 feet on the average over 4 runs. That course was an off-axis approach of about 35 degrees.

    extra sweeps slight improvement.

    35 degrees off axis.

It would be much fairer to look at the comparative performance from platform to platform in the same test on the same course, versus what nine_c1 got a few years ago on a different course. LOL Wow.

By the way, I'm happy you are home with the V1. There's nothing quite like a V1 and encourage everyone to test drive one in their search for a detector that suits them. Having owned a few V1s myself, done extensive testing with them over the years, and been a part of the YaV1 beta testing group with Franckie, Vortex, Windstrings, Youthan, mikedotd (and I'm sure I'm forgetting somone) I think I offer a unique perspective on how they perform and what settings are best in various environments. But I certainly don't claim to know it all and am always learning. I'm way behind current app development and haven't even tested V1Driver or JBV1 because I sold my last V1 a while ago after receiving a nasty ticket in Missouri while doing some mischievous cruising. I then decided to switch to a wire-bonded M3 Magnum, and moved along to the R1 and R3. And while I don't personally feel comfortable using a V1 for my driving style, I can still appreciate all the pluses that this awesome device offers.

@hiddencam... I agree about the number of sweeps... I started out having multiple sweeps covering everything Wide and Tight... but after time, experience and knowledge gleaned from this forum... I finally settled on no more than 4 sweeps maximum... seemed to give the best results... Now when I use my V1, I mostly use the following:

    V1 version (3.894)
    TMF- ON
    Ka filter- Off
    Sweeps: (A)
    1- 34.607 - 34.770 (W)
    2- 34.774 - 34.848
    3- 35.379 - 35.630 (W)
    4- 34.652 - 34.755 (TC)

    Sweeps: (B)
    1- 34.623 - 34.770 (W)
    2- 34.774 - 34.848 (W)
    3- 35.394 - 35.630 (W)

My main threat is 34.7 and K-band... sometimes I just run the 3 Wide sweeps (B) covering each band... The dual radars, smooth ramp-up and arrows coupled with the situational awareness are all hard to beat and seem to keep me coming back for more (like an old pair of broken-in tennis shoes)...:)

You've just confirmed my point. You're focussed on one attribute - detection range.

OK, I see. But, I've gone from multiple 34.7 sweeps starting with a very tight one to a single sweep covering 34.4 - 35.1.
Anecdotally, the single sweep seems better.

Not at all. Although detection range is probably the absolute most important factor it’s not the only factor. The R3 doesn’t need an app and the only thing it’s lacking that the V1 has is arrows. It definitely has as good at filtering Me, I can live with that considering how much better the detection is on the R3. Now the NetRadar DSP has everything the V1 has plus much better range. As I said I’m just looking for the best. I’m seriously considering switching to the Max Ci 360. If I see more testing here confirming that it does in fact have the best filtering and range I will switch to it.

The app ONLY affects stationary K band falsing. TMF2 resolves the others.
