Personally, unless I could do it REAL quick-like (like before my car was even at a complete stop) I wouldn't go rooting around in the console or trying to hide something if the cop has any chance of seeing you try. This is just a bad move from every angle.

Unless you are in VA or wherever, it is legal.

If you want to make an effort to hide it anyway, that is a problem that needs to be solved before the popo has the lights on.

yeah you're right, really not enough time to eject RD from bracket unplug the power jack and peel off the suction cups all in a fast un-seen swift move lol better just leave it up there not playing any games

It is a bad idea these days to be doing anything with your hands when you are being pulled over other than holding them up or sticking them out the window. I always do it. It usually gets the encounter started off on the right foot anyway.

I'll usually set my wallet and insurance on the dash as well. Although the last time I got stopped my insurance card fell between the seat and the center console when I pulled it out of my visor. So the cop is standing there while I'm digging around between my seats. Fortunately I'm a middle aged white guy in dockers and a polo so he didn't seem concerned.

    Pull over to safe spot.
Turn car off and put keys on dash in plain sight.
    Roll down window.
    Put both hands on wheel.
Greet officer with Good Morning/Whatever Officer
I am licensed and am carrying a weapon.
Go from there.....it is not a conviction so no reason to bargain with him/her....just be friendly and nice.

I could have fun making stuff up. I'm easily amused......

Officer: "What's that under your rear view mirror?"
Driver: "Hmm... It appears to be some sort of electronic device."

I drive a really short car so I doubt that somebody standing outside could see my R1 above the RVM unless they were really looking for it. I've been pulled over once with it up there and got a warning.

This wasn’t even the longest thread i have read about this topic on that cop forum. But the bottom line is if they know you have a RD i think you are going to get a ticket, if they can find anything to write you up for.

The best way to run is with your RD totally concealed imo.

Am I the only one that's not really worried about this? To me it seems like the cops on that forum are a little bit more childish, vindictive and wet behind the ears than most of the traffic cops I've been forced to deal with. Maybe it's because I'm in a rural area? Hopefully with a radar detector you'll be having less interaction with them anyway.

If you get nabbed with your radar detector and can't safely hide it, just don't worry about it or draw attention to it. Try the normal way of weaseling your way out of a ticket. They're posted somewhere on this forum. Complement their hiding spot/tactics. If they ask about it, tell them your radar detector is a ticket detector and that you're hopeful you won't receive one because it didn't go off. See if you can make them laugh and wait to swear at them under your breath as you drive away, hopefully without a ticket.
    :p

From the tenor of those threads I bet you a lot of them were the ones putting people in gym lockers. They realized that after they got out of high school the only way they could keep bullying people and stuffing them into the proverbial locker without getting into trouble was to become a cop.

Some of us also have to disclose we are carrying a legal concealed firearm which spices up the encounter a little. Some LEOs don’t care while others want to ask about the make and model: I generally keep it brief but “friendly.” I have been pulled multiple times- running red light, speeding, not having my registration sticker on my plate (it was attached to my paper registration)....got plenty of warnings and only 1 ticket- be respectful and it can go a long way

Interesting 10 year ago thread from a few officers. I think you should continue with your old one source of info so you will continue "to know all I need to know" from info from the decade when the Iphone was first invented (as well as Windows 7 and Android systems). Good luck with that....

But, do you have any info from the last year or 2?
