He also posted this on the Escort Forum :"Yes I have a brand new redline ex international in new Zealand and the 1.4 software update has bricked my unit. It uploaded fine but failed to update the defender database, went to plug it into my vehicle and its dead no power at all. The unit is still recognised by detector tools pro".
Doesn't power up in the car...yet the computer detects it.

My first thought would be to check the power supply. Smartcord connections, 12v outlet in vehicle and to try a 2nd power cable if the 12v source works. If that fails to call ER Cust Svc, maybe there is a "factory reset" command/sequence. Just some thoughts as to how I would attempt to trouble shoot.

    Hopefully its an easy fix...

I presume it is because they drive on the left side of the road in New Zealand.

Doesn’t the computer use USB? Just because the computer sees it doesn’t mean something else isn’t toast. Could’ve somehow fried the rj11 port on the detector itself, or as someone else mentioned the power cable could be the issue, or worse the actual 12v outlet in the car isn’t working. First try a different 12v outlet in the car if you have one. Then if still no power, it’s a good bet it’s just the power cable so swap that out next. If neither work and you can confirm the outlets have power then you may need to send it in. Or try to get an adapter so you can plug the unit into a regular power outlet in your house. If still doesn’t work, off to Escort it goes!

Thanks, Timark you beat me to it. Not trying to smear Escort, but when you ask a question and receive an answer only to later see a contradicting statement it is hard to have faith and trust in that entity.

    Hows the saying go....
Fool me one, shame on you, fool me twice shame on ME!

Sad, as I've been an Escort user and fan for many years.

What bugs did the EX have though? They fixed the KA and Laser falsing in 1.3.

I'll guess we'll never know, since Escort doesn't deem it important enough to tell us.

Why would a redline ex international go to v1.4 when it is suppose to be v1.2 this is where the problem lies. Pic 12hrs ago by escort. Screenshot_20180313-214547.jpg

@timark251 you weren't really expecting a substantive update were you?

I was hoping they'd resolve the EX enigma ( and Pro A too) : why their latest and greatest M3 does not perform as well as the Redline original?

They did??? My EX laser falses more than any single WS mount I've owned ( to beat the V1 in laser falsing us saying a lot).

What was the Ka false issue on EX??

@nzsparky8....may I please start off by saying that my father in law is a Kiwi. Ok, we've gotten that out of the way. The manner in which you have the Redline mounted is akin to having a 1.8 meter gorgeous blonde with big boobs and long legs walk by and staring at a rubbish bin instead of her.

I realize that radar detectors may be illegal in NZ and AU. To keep the detector pointed straight (which is vital for proper detection), here is a solution I used. Below are photos of a Garmin GPS mounting disc and plastic shims. Glue the plastic shims to the back of the Garmin disc so that when you put it on the windshield, the disc will be perpendicular to the road. Trim the shims to the shape of the Garmin disc. Apply 3M double sided tape to the back of the shims that will adhere the disc to your windshield. You will now have a Redlined mounted just inside the windshlield pillar so that blue heelers can't see it, but it will also point straight ahead.

That is an excellent place for detecting radar. Not as good as lower for detecting lidar, but if you are worried about lidar, you should be running LJs anyway. Radar detectors are just ticket notifiers except in rare instances were you might pick up some scatter, and mounted high is probably just as good for that.
