I have to wonder if some of it too is the zip file. I spent 2 hours on the phone with a customer that is using a mac. Sent him the right cord, uploaded fw again, but still showing not connected.

So you have verified your drivers are installed. As @Up All Night described.
You have verified that cable is in fact a data and not just a power cable. With another device.
Tried a different USB port.

I only have one machine with 10 on it. I never use it because I can't stand it. My others are still running 7. Let me take a shot at running an update on my machine with 10 tomorrow and I will get back with you.

I would suspect the cable then. They sell charge only cables.....not data cables....have you used the cable to transfer data on a camera or phone with it yet?

Those with a PS3 - the mini USB cables for the controllers work fine with the Uniden R3

Or a Garmin, was going to get you a screen shot but, was packing and found my WiFi wasn’t working. Can’t leave the Wife w/o WiFi - she’ll fire me LOL.

I have couple cables, one for Cardo G9X transfer data fine, second from Power Commander USB3 transfer data fine too, I bought from this forum recommended from Amazon use it to transfer data on both G9X and USB3 working fine too.

I have W10 and it would not work the first time- kept trying and unplugged the usb from the detector and the PC and re-plugged and closed out of the driver and re opened. Some back and forth and it worked after a few tries after mixing up the order of operations.

The cable from any digital camera will work. If a computer can read files directly from the camera via the cable, it will work for updating software. This is also a good test to check other cables to see if they will transfer data. Connect them to a camera and computer. If it works then it will work for updating as well.

I've just received my R3 :) and it came with a USB cable, so I'm assuming that it is a data cable.
I'm also experiencing difficulties in downloading FW on my MAC?
My son has a PC and so I'll run it on his machine and see what happens!
I'm not very technically minded when it comes to this sort of stuff, so I may need some guidance, particularly with loading of the AU/NZ data base.
Cheers
