I purchased the Pre release awhile back and use it. Should I be using the beta or pre Release version? Is there a difference?

Currently the only difference is the Beta will expire after 30 days from release.

In the future I may release experimental code on the Beta and not risk braking the paid release version.

Don’t forget to backup your data before uninstalling anything if you ever decide to switch.

    Thanks!

If I forget and close the app in the back ground is there a way to make it restart when I fire up my truck?

Depending on which OS you are on and which Trigger's you are using if it was in wait for Trigger State when you killed it the System will Fire the App up when it gets the trigger.
This applies to the "Power Trigger" on Android 6,7 and might work on Oreo (I forget). And if you are using the LE Dongle on Oreo it will start the App up when it sees the Dongle.
I don't believe the A2DP Bluetooth trigger will start the App back up now but I might be able to make that work in the near future. It might even work now, so many combinations I lose track.
    I'll try to test it.

There are other ways to do it that consume battery (which Oreo won't allow). But is available on earlier versions of Android and to date I have avoided.

Which OS and Dongle are you using?

    I am using a note 8 with 7.1.1

What settings/toggles are best to have set to turn itself on if I forget and clear the app running in the back ground?

Assuming you pair it to your car then use the "Bluetooth A2DP Trigger" which is Enabled by default.
Make sure you review which devices you want to have it act on under that Setting in V1Driver Bluetooth Settings.
When your car connects it will start scanning. But it won't start scanning if you killed the app in this case (not ideal, I know).
I think I might be able to make it restart the app (without chewing up battery) in the near future on Android Nougat (7).

On Android Oreo (8) it can restart the App because it uses a new method that is only available on Oreo.

@Stoopstroop new release can now start start the App if you kill it on Android 7. (If enabled). See release notes.
