The roads are full of oblivious morons who can't chew and walk at the same time. Never let your guard down

[edit] read vortex reviews and decided to wait until uniden r3 nz is on sale again, it seems to really out do the range of the redline ex by heaps!

We got hit by a driver crossing 4 lanes on the motorway yesterday.. then they decided to drive off.. police tried catching them but couldn't find them so paid them a visit.. to no surprise "we weren't on the motorway" hmm well the photos I have of them driving would suggest otherwise... sigh.

Hey Guys, those of you testing my databases, please send me a conversation with comments on directly including approximate GPS location (within 500m - 1km should allow me to know what existing camera you refer to). If you only post comments on here, I may miss them.

Basically, I aim for my database to be optimised as far as possible. The maximum range for a speed / redlight camera alert on the R3 is 300m. If you are getting less than a 300m alert (or nothing!), then we can probably do a lot better! An alert of 100m or less suggests that the camera direction in the R3 database is not properly optimised.

Also currently working to interconvert the database for NZ original and US R3 versions. Therefore going forward there should be no good reason for anyone not testing and/or using it in AU or NZ!

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

Having used the redline original and R3, I would recommend saving money and getting an R3 from America. I know you can now convert a US R3 into an NZ/AU original R3. Therefore, I would not waste money paying extra for an NZ R3!

Again today, lane swapping and indicating just as they cross the line. Time we voted for a party that will clean out the rot at NZTA. I see a bit of news about 4kmh limit, cops trying to justify it and the jerks at AA backing up the policy when others well known in the motoring industry saying it's the wrong target. AA kissing the butt of the dollar again, they are becoming a joke also. Every time a voting motorist gets a ticket for being a little over the limit it drags down the respect people have for traffic enforcement. Remember, cant have good policing without the public support and confidence, well why go to such effort to undermine it? 4k tax collectors for NZTA thats what, not really interested in getting the road toll down if it means less revenue!

The thing is, when an action is taken to achieve a goal, normally after it has been concluded there will be a result. This being the case, have the NZ police ever given a summary and report of how the 4kph / zero tolerance has actually effected the road toll for that time? All they seem to do is say how many deaths there have been. As far as I have seen over the years, the reduced speed tolerances have had no noticeable impact in either increasing or decreasing deaths on the road. It is a blatant indisputable form of revanue collection. We need crank down on twits who are on their electrical devices whilst driving, people sitting at speeds way below the posted speed limit and tailgaters. These are all things the police can ticket and enforce to pay for their new shiny fleet of vehicles they want and possibly... just possibly ACTUALLY reduce the road toll

There's an old principle in law, any law that is widely ignored is bad law.
There's another one in Government, any law that rakes in billions is great law.

I can now make my updated NZ and AU R3 databases available to Original NZ/A R3 owners. I have updated these to be compatible with the official Uniden upload tool V1.25. They will upload as normal, and are equally compatible with your official Uniden NZ/A firmware.

I am also currently working on further updates and improvements to my NZ and AU database versions. Hopefully I can make these available some time in January.

I'm gonna go hardwire for my R3 now. Wheres the best place to get it? can I just grab any off ebay or is it better to go through a local company?

If you don't care about a mute button, my advice is to go down to jaycar and get a 2-3m RJ12 cable and a couple of connectors. Set you back around $12-14. Did it for my R3 and worked perfect

You need a crimp tool too.

Passed a highway patrol cop parked in the side of the road likely looking for speeders. Radar didnt go off at all which was kind of surprising, there were plenty cars on the road too. Maybe he was on break or just estimating the speed of cars by sight.

Also noticed a lot of cops in the city leave their radar off most of the time .

Review of Uniden R3 database:

Okay, I have reviewed the updates introduced into the uniden NZ_DB_V1.36_20181123 R3 database.

All of these relate to NZ cameras (=> my software now confirms absolutely no changes made to Australian part of DB by Uniden since before 30 March 2018).

There are many old camera deletions. Many of which I have already implemented in my November release. Other deletions confirm the removal of some old cameras currently still in my Nov release.

This NZ/AU uniden database also introduces a couple of updates to existing camera locations by changing the camera type. This is a new camera type I have not seen before, so I am wondering if they have provided new camera types with increased range? Therefore I will test these camera types to see what they actually do. It also finally introduces the Wellington redlight camera.

Therefore, looking like I should release a new updated NZ database soon, with some additional improvements as well as incorporating some of these changes also.

He'll almost certainly be using I/O or Lidar. Or having a snooze.

You can just get the block of 10 for $2 that only require a terminal screwdriver for termination
That's new to me. Every RJ plug I've used have to be crimped. Where'd you get them?

Happy New Year to all here on the side of the angels. Another year or minimising Police revenue ahead:bravo:

Just sharing info from my back and forth between auckland and taupo. Ticket free thanks to the uniden R3. 2 out of 3 police cars on the road I ran into were running CO. The other third may have been running IO, however didnt get any alert from them. Note to all here in NZ, it may just be my luck, but 3/4 of detections were from moving police vehicles on passing lanes. Seems too consistent to be coincidence and this is not the first time I have noticed this. Also closer to auckland, seen a good number of Bobby's sitting on highway on rams. Could be on accident response or speed monitoring. Hoping everyone is having a ticket free holiday period so far

Oh no not the plug its self, just for termination internally of the vehicle. A little bit of wire snipping and stripping and use terminal conectors to join onto your lines haha

Oh yes. For your safety, you see.
I've only been around Christchurch over the holidays and actually haven't seen much radar around town at all, guessed they must all be out patrolling the passing lanes!

They use the 4kmh because Stalker only guarantees the units to that spec so they would loose in court if they tried to say you were 103 because even visual tracking history isn't that accurate. The truth is they are accurate to less the 1kmh. Before I go to a track day I check my two units with GPS and they are bang on. Today I saw a motorcyclist in the distant behind me, I got the remote out of the console pocket and I/O'd him from behind at 147 and I/O'd him going for it through the cars ahead of me at 150. Now, I normally don't use it on the road, only to calibrate, so if I can push the on button, grab the remote and I/O from both Gunns then the LEO's do have the upper hand. Listen to you RD, that annoying beep could be I/O being used!
