Think about it. Would they really make BSM systems illegal? No more new cars in NZ?
Because no manufacturer would supply cars to a country that bans these systems. I'm also fairly sure it would breach some regulations in the UN Convention on Road Safety
This rule is clearly to stop all and sundry bringing in devices running in that band. They want to control the supply.
My wife's car is running BSM and cross traffic warning and it was sold after that rule was formulated and a month before it came into effect. Yet, NZTA still allowed it to be sold.
Not to mention the hundreds of cars sold last month.

On another subject, who gets sick and tired of Police BS over checkpoints? On the news last night Steve Greally of the Police Road Safety section was whinging that they had 6 people over the limit out of 3200 tested. That's around .2%, and probably all between the old limit and the new.
That's bloody miraculous. So now we know drink and speed aren't killing people that much.
I guess that leaves sheer bloody incompetence.

Just in case you're wondering, I'm still working on testing lots of settings for the cameras in the R3 databases. Making good progress, but its taking a long time to test so many camera settings to find the most useful ones.

Probably another couple of weeks before I can complete the Perth update with all the new redlight and speed cameras added. After that I'll put this out there for the new AU only database.

I've also been notified to remove the old Karamu road camera from Hastings. People may note this is still active in my 20 November DB release.

Yeh, lowered the BAL, destroying community bonding because can't have a couple of wines or beers with your friends. Interesting where the limit is 4km over but the LEO is not to use the radar as the speed but only as a guide, guess what, the units they use which are the best only guarantee +_ 3kmh, so they do use the radar and not their observation, bullshit the public again. Problem is that we have Judges the don't understand that all their devices are not 100% reliable and every time somebody gets convicted even-though credible doubt was presented the justice system looses respect and creditability. As a species we haven't come very far, still full of promoting fear, circulating non-truths all for self interest.
Imagine if they got the road toll right down, most would be out of a job.

In the absence of justice, what is sovereignty but organized robbery? Saint Augustine

Sweden, among others, adopted vision zero (no traffic deaths). In ten years the reduction in deaths was 13%.
They do better than us, mostly through better driver training and roads, but it shows that zero deaths is unachievable. Unless you ban all travel, which we seem to be heading towards.
The fact that our road toll is what it is is a minor miracle in itself.

Sweden is run by loonies and is actually going broke. The average human is not very bright and this shows with government policy's but amongst those dimwits are some very smart people that manipulate them for an outcome. Take electric cars for instance, calculate the actual energy going to the wheels compared to what was needed at the generation point. We are 80% + renewable energy, almost all the world is not. Search for derelict wind farms, you will be surprised how many are not worth maintaining so they are abandoned. We are feed emotional dribble mainly because most of them have their snout in the trough. At 400ppm the planet is starved of CO2, it should be around 1050ppm, ask any commercial hot house grower, that's the perfect concentration for plant growth and they have been around a lot longer than we have.

We should go back through the press releases over the last 25 years and look at the draconian laws that would get the road toll down, the truth is they don't know what they are doing because as I said humans are on average a bit dim. Proof, banning frequency's around Redflex, it's like telling those who are smart enough that it's possible to jam it, chance of getting caught doing it, close to zero.

A university education doesn't make you smart. When one of the doomsday dates was coming up a Doctor who has also trained in pathology asked if it was true and what she should do if it was and she was seriously worried. The hallways of power are full of them trying to babysit and control us.

So easy to get the masses to believe anything, speed, drink driving, seatbelts and all the other crap force feed to the dim, it works because advertising is big and hasn't gone away.

Some good news though, the Japanese have realised that tailgating is a major problem and a cause of aggression and frustration that leads to driver taking chances or they cause accidents. The news is only 24 hour old but where is in the media here? They have been going full out to stop it and it is already working. NHK should have the full story in English on line.

We could get the road toll down by bringing back the law that had somebody walking in front with a flag!

While I agree with most of what you say, where did you get this? Brietbart?
We'd be doing extremely well if we had their GDP per capita. we're 48th, they're 26th. They have some of the best social policies in the world. Their people don't die because of lack of modern drugs to treat common cancers, ours do.
Their people are well educated , our kids write in text.

Our kids write in keyboard, considering the BYOD system we seem have launched ourselves into. I only wish kids had to deal with writing cursive like I had to do and getting flamed for not having nice enough handwriting!

My wife hires staff for her department, any CV's that have any text speak are binned.
It's not uncommon, kids need to be told that.

After pasting a few links about Sweden's lovely social experiment I deleted them so you can look for yourself. We are headed that way as well.

It's an "experiment" that's been working well for several decades, as does most of Scandinavia.
I don't know how old you are H2, but I remember when NZ was a lot like Sweden. We had one of the pioneers of heart surgery here. Anyone could get Barret-Boyes services without paying. Young people could buy a house and raise a family on one income.
A well functioning society doesn't have to be dog eat dog, such as leaving people to die because they don't have insurance.

It has. But things like TV's cost the earth, cars were really expensive and there wasn't much variety.
Eating out wasn't a regular thing for most people.
They were much simpler times though.

They do! At least at the schools I teach at. It's still required at ALL Queensland schools.

I always laugh when I see kids holding a pen like they're trying to stab the paper to death.

Ohio is making writing compulsory in schools to try and fix these problems.

BTW playing with one of my Stalkers yesterday, not the NZ issued one but an in car I/O, RD's are useless, you just can't brake fast enough. The Dual DSR is quick, about 2 seconds to lock. We are lucky they don't have the X2 I/O version.

Unfortunately it has devolved somewhat in New Zealand. Some schools do still have it, but a lot of the public schools have reverted to doing what's easiest to make it work, and so far that has meant a large decrease in handwriting ability. I spent years trying to get good handwriting, I mean, I failed somewhat, but that's not the point...

Had a good encounter today with a redflex camera with a speed sign prior. Location is Southampton St W Hastings, Hawkes Bay

Uniden R3 (v1.26) vs traffic sensor 24.150 (ish) and redflex (24.084)

I picked the van up in both directions 300m post camera and 150m pre-camera.
Plenty of traffic around to deflect the radar.
Without the GPS muting i would've just ignored the alert.

I might swing by it again this afternoon for a closer look.

I see the NZTA maimed another motorcyclist near Dunedin. He hit a cheese cutter, destroyed his face. These pricks have blood on their hands and what's so sad is that the LEO's pick up the mess NZTA create!
