my STI XR is getting a bit long in the tooth, and switching K band on causes lots of false detection's form door openers around town, so thats why i switched it off, but then got napped by a mobile cameras.... I dont think it has band segmentation, but will have another look at the programming tonight. I had a V1 until someone kindly broke my window and stole it, but again it was an older one with false Kband detection's so switched that off. I didnt realise that the vans had a different freq from the fixed poles, so may look at the EX as you suggested....
Any detector you buy will give you K band falses, even if you forked out a couple of grand for the Stinger VIP, it is a given around automatic door openers and industrial areas. The ability to only monitor 23.950 - 24.110 will reduce falsing, but you will sill get them. So instead of 10 falses in an hour, you may get only 5, but they will still happen. K band from blind spot mirrors is currently not a big issue in NZ, but is another source of K band, but is filtered out well by some of the newer detectors.

With the V1 you can customise it (if you have the bluetooth connection). Then you can switch between Ka only, and Ka and K in under 3 seconds, by just pressing and holding the power knob - 1 finger. Most other detectors would take you at least a minute and at least two hands. What I am getting to is the ability to do it while driving around. If you are after a newish V1, get in touch with @chakeubeam or @rahul1023.

FYI.
The new V1 app, JBV1, now allows me to reduce K visual alerts outside the box to barely visible as well as muting them. Now I only get a visible/audible alert if I'm over quiet ride speed and it's in a 100Mhz box.
The developer is working on geo fencing for automatic profile and sweep changes. Not super useful downunder, but great in the States where every hick town has it's own rules.
These apps are getting so sophisticated it makes your head spin.

Good to know. Think the lowest I've seen was 24.03.
Out of curiosity - how far away did you pick it up, and which side of the road was it on?

I saw it well before, but alert was when I was right on top. Was trying out a beltronics STI - remote. Van was Left hand side, just before a passing pane heading south, just before Rakaia I think.

It'll be a bugger if they drop below 23.950

Well well, that trip to tauranga was interesting... about 4 cop detections from maybe 700m-1.2km away over the 4. But ya know what bugs me... went through a roundabout where it splits to tauranga/matamata or coromandel and this truck that was infront of me moved over to the left onto the verge kinda thing while still taking off (what i thought was to let us pass) so me and two others that were 'cruising' with me to tauranga started overtaking this truck... at high enough speeds we will say, I got to the front of the truck and bam.. speed van... fml. I slammed on my brakes as much as I could without letting the other fella behind me go into my ass as he was going even faster than I was. I think the third guy with us would've got off all good as the truck was probably blocking the van while he was overtaking but me and the other guy definitely would have got pinged by it.. probably in one shot too....

Anyone know if you get sent the lovely photo automatically or do you have to request it?

only downside of running KA only I guess... even a 100m or less could have saved our asses a little bit.

Surely you can request a photo? it would've got 3 plates I think...
Yeah I’m not sure if there is a way to request the photo, should be, luckily never got pinged, but heard you just get a fine in the mail. I have seen a FIY request on the FIY website requesting a photo.

Everyone should request a photo everytime. It pisses the cops off having to do the paperwork, it reduces their profit margin, and it might just show the ticket isn't kosher. ( Two vehicles in the shot).
If spudtatoe got 4 hits, I'm thinking I'm a cop repellent.

PS. The Police can legally use all of K band, same with Ka.

The saving grace is that they use the same equipment as anyone else. I don't know of any traffic radar that works in the high 23 Ghz band.

I must of missed that van as I drove past the same roundabout just after 12pm yesterday on my way to Rotavegas. Caught a few cops on the R3 with the best detection with just over 3kms. I think he was using instant on as detection wasn't constant as it was practically a straight.

I leave k low frequencies on on trips like that on my pro a. It has saved me more than once. You should do the same...

I'm yet to test the range on the EX though
