Hi NZ'ers

The purpose of this thread is to give us folks down under a place to chat about anything they encounter on the roads (CM Related) or anything else they feel is ralevant.

Since there isn't too many of us it would be great to post stuff to educate each other and just generally chat.

Would be awesome to see some dash cam footage of any encounters too!

Solid idea!

I switched to unlimited data so now I can run the EL and Waze app without caring about how much I’m using so hopefully this weekend when I head to Tauranga for D1NZ I get some hits.

Could be keen!

Should be back to Auckland Saturday night, but if I end up crashing there then I’ll have to pass.

I’ll confirm later on in the week

ive been experimenting with my r3 against redflex and i reckon mounting vertically gives it a bit more warning. about 100m when travelling to back of pole camera and maybe 250-300m when travelling towards it. just holding it in my hand when i get close tocamera as havent figured out a more permanent solution.

i loaned a redline vertical mount to a mate in auckland but havent had it back as was a waste of time using k band on redline anyway.

Hey guys, great idea for this thread!

@shadow69 interesting observations. Anything over 100-150m is awesome!

if you looking for a non-traditional way to mount your detector, especially vertically, you could pick one of these cheap on trademe.

Damn was hoping my comment would’ve shown up there LOL.

I’ve had a 34.894 and 34.800 hit in the last couple of days... no visual signs of anything though.

I got a 1.9km detection on 34.724 at the weekend between Halswell & Tai Tapu. Maroon coloured Holden parked on the side of the road, looked like he was doing paperwork. Light rain so I was a little surprised to find radar in use.
Also seen 34.703, 34.735, 34.698 and something up over 34.8 but couldn't confirm it visually.
Since I scan as low as 34.1 (since finding 34.708 / 34.330 coming from a marked car & 34.2 from a mufti car several months ago) I've also picked up 34.353, 34.260 in recent times but again couldn't identify where they were coming from so probably falses.
I'm starting to wonder about the very low freqs I found, if there's possibility of cop running a cobra or something for off-duty times... I haven't visually confirmed such low freqs from a police car in quite some time.

@KiwiBloke - You have had visual confirmation of 34.330? This falls outside of the KA5 Segment on the Redline EX.

Does this mean we should potentially be scanning KA4 as well fellow Redline EX users?

In my experience, the lower frequencies are normally falses/leaks from the cobras and whistlers and even some of those cheap aliexpress detectors.

I used to segment my redline 4,5,6,, but now only 5,6 as the police stalkers are mostly segment 5 and rarely 6 and I have not had any visual confirmation of them falling in 4.

Yes, just checked it was April last year. Christchurch. I don't keep logs back that far but I recall it being a strong alert that didn't behave like a false. It does seem strange though as it's a long ways off 34.7. There was that issue too where some police forgot to calibrate their gear. So I keep scanning the lower freqs out of uncertainty but it could well be unnecessary.

Yes, that was the only two times I had a visual confirmation (the mufti car I ran into twice half an hour apart and the V1 reacted the same way both times) & I don't think anything since. So I can't rule out that it was just some fluke / experimentation on their part way back then. But if no-one else is finding anything similar it might be time for me to bring my 34.7 sweep into line again.

What sweeps are you currently running? Standard three as per Vortex website?

No, made my own after running USA mode (i.e. entire Ka band) for a while to see what was around. At the moment:
34.100 - 34.770
34.774 - 35.000
35.394 - 35.615 -> just in case, after seeing 35.5 but I think they were just falses

Since with JBV1 I can write a contiguous sweep, I'll probably switch soon to:
34.45 - 34.9... maybe 35.0
No 35.5 sweep

Vortex's sweeps are 34.593 - 34.833 which I think just a little narrow. I think your redline seg 6 does 34.806 - 35.166

Nice, if you can do one sweep why not try 34.5 or even 34.6 - 34.9. Or you reckon too narrow?

I am unsure about the 35.5 as I have encountered it once, was pretty convincing, but nothing since then : www.rdforum.org: Just came across Ka 35.483 - Christchurch
