    Hello everyone,
I'm a developer with experience on the IOS platform and was thinking about building an app that replicates and improves upon Wazes ability to notify users of speed traps.
I am curious, would you guys be interested in this, and would you be willing to pay for it? Any specific features/ideas you would want?
I acknowledge that one of Wazes greatest strengths is it's user base, but after some time I think this would not be such a problem. Nobody wants tickets.

Let me know what you think!

well it would be cool if there was a way to integrate with some of the other apps/platforms out there, I know waze can share data via an RSS stream i believe (escargot drive uses it), some of the V1 apps might be able to share data as well. also would be cool to add in customizable aircraft alerts which i believe you can get a data stream from flightaware/flightradar24, perhaps alerting you when an aircraft you have setup to monitor is within a selected distance from you and flying. There seems like there are plenty of sources of good data out there, the ability to pool them all into one app would be nice. I know there is talk about creating some app functionality to RDFGS2.0 which might support some of these goals too... not sure... always glad to see innovation in this area. anything that helps us avoid tickets is a good thing. I'm fine to pay for an app if it works and provides a good service :)

Seems as if Waze is well established. I think you would have a limited market especially if you are looking for crowd-based information. (Look how inadequate Escort Live got, after they stopped using Waze info in 2015. They just don't have enough users anymore on EL.)

I'm gonna tell you like how they say it on the Shark Tank.

"Waze is gonna crunch you like the cockroach that you are!" lol... no offense!

Now, seriously... if you want to compete against Waze it would be SOOOO difficult! There's a reason why Google paid $1.15 billion for it. Building a database like that would take forever if you even achieve it.

What I would do if I were you was to integrate Waze into your new app (I don't know if that is legal or doable) and probably integrate also the apps from different RD manufacturers (V1, Escort and I dont know who else has one) and then!... it would be cool if you could customize it per our requests.

For example: I use escort app when I ride my motorcycle while I am using my SmartRadar and it sucks that I only get one voice alert saying "Ka band detected" and that's it! or if I dont want a voice I only get ONE door bell ring! - It would be cool if I could get the "brapp brapp brapp" classic sound or at least something that won't destroy my ears but that is more than just ONE alert regardless of how far or how close the Ka band signal is from me.

Too bad there wasn’t a way to integrate alerts and Waze together.

Like Escort live alerts and Waze together.

Like “police reported ahead.” And what type of alert it was.

Say “Ka band ahead.” Or “laser ahead.”

    And integrate it somehow.

I open waze and leave it in the "background" then open escort live and get waze alerts while I still get the escort alerts while listening to music thru escort live.....

I would be interested after a user base was established. I would not be a pioneer. Waze does the job very well and I see no benefit to being the only guy using a new app.

Man, as good as Waze is in my area and it being free...... it would be a hard no from me. I honestly don't see any paid app like this going without a good userbase. I think that's where EL went wrong. The free app should have come with the bluetooth smart cord.

I still have my 'Trapster' t-shirt I won from them as well!

It is great to have people motivated to create new apps such as this, but (IMO) it would be near impossible to compete with Waze given their current user base, loyalty, and the massive company behind them them with funding and development. Waze nailed it by incorporating basically everything into the app creating an all in one for directions, traffic, police, etc. People are 'simple', and do not want to run a few apps when they can just run one and get it done.

You never know what can happen though, you have to take chances to succeed at times, best of luck!

This is one thing that makes RDF unique to this type of thing. Integrating our userbase with these services (which is what I am planning on with the RDFGS 2.0) is extremely important and provides much better accuracy than anything else on the market today, and really in the future. RDF is the largest radar detector/laser jammer discussion forum out there. Period. And I should state we are the enthusiast-level - which is the best possible world for these types of things. Our members and our data is just significantly more accurate than everything else out there. And tying that in with Waze/EL is what we are intending on doing with RDFGS 2.0.

RDFGS 2.0 (still pending a name change, possibly) will be taking a stab at all these angles and will bring the data this community has gathered over years and years to create a system based on our wants/needs. And @smllc there may be a seat at the table for you here - we are going to need help with this project. And iOS is definitely something I personally don't want to deal with so perhaps the collaboration between the community and the developers here will work towards a resolution once we lay the groundwork for our plan.

Right, 65 million active users on Waze. And I still find it marginally useful out in the burbs and rural areas. It's probably very useful when you start getting near the bigger cites.

It has not spotted a Leo ahead once for me, that he was actually still there.

It's all crowd sourced. Woo..yeah only as useful as the crowd.

Plus the alerts expire after a short while if people don't give it the thumbs up.

I find Waze most useful on the highway. And especially on the interstates. In the City, I don't really run it as it's pretty worthless for LEO markings.
