Okay, so there are 3 penalties involved if caught with jammers in TN.What’s the penalty?
1.) possession of jammers is a Class C misdemeanor
2.) operating a motor vehicle with jammers installed is a Class C misdemeanor
3.) actively jamming a LEO trying to get your speed is a Class B misdemeanor
So, if the state wanted to throw the book at you, if you are caught actively jamming a LEO, you could be charge with 2 Class C misdemeanors and 1 Class B misdemeanor.
Class C misdemeanor:
not greater than thirty (30) days in jail or a fine not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00), or both, unless otherwise provided by statute
Class B misdemeanor:
not greater than six (6) months in jail or a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500), or both, unless otherwise provided by statute
Also, the LEO can:
(e) Any radar jamming device that is used in violation of this section is subject to seizure by any law enforcement officer and may be confiscated and destroyed by order of the court in which a violation of this section is charged.
And while that says radar jamming device, according to the statute, that includes laser jammers.
