I have seen 4 of these since the beginning of December. One in Utica, 2 up North and 1 yesterday at Exit 23 N'Way.

All of them were doing traffic - 2 were at accidents and 2 of them had Stalkers in operations 1 of them was unmarked and was just blue with no stickers.

I have seen a few in the past, but they were doing DOT enforcement (commercial vehicle enforcement unit) with the Big Rigs or the DEC/Forest Rangers/Park Police - Never seen F250s with NYSP stickers running radar before.

They Looked like this DEC vehicle

Thanks for the info. I have never seen F250s with NYSP stickers running radar before. I wonder if a cruiser got stuck turning around in a unplowed median or something like that, and they are busting these out for harsh winter areas. IDK.

I've never seen one before either. Gonna have to keep my eyes open. Thank you very much for the heads-up.

I know a number of the cars were involved in accidents with the cold/snow. 3 or 4 Just in Troop B in one and 1/2 weeks alone. But I have seen 2 of these trucks before December 20th. I think they are using as many different types of vehicles as they can, especially with all the texting. It gives them a lot of options. Plus I think I would rather drive a F250 than one of those cars.

I do see Park Police near the Saratoga Battlefield/Cemetery running Stalkers in their F150s, but these are new.

I have been trying to see if the Troopers assigned to these vehicles have been wearing the normal hat, or a baseball hat (commercial vehicle enforcement unit), but none had their hats on in the vehicle.

The DNR uses them around here. Never seen one doing traffic enforcement but I have seen them used in check point enforcements.

Is this a real LEO vehicle or somebody who works as a LEO put a bunch of stickers on their truck? Look at the license plate.

the video is an example of what samq45 was describing, but there are real state police in NY doing speed enforcement in trucks.

As for the video, that is a Forest Ranger Park Police vehicle used to portray what state police are now using for highway enforcement.

Seen a Ford F-150 state trooper on the highway in queens last year. Didn't have dashcam footage cause I was doing a quick airport run to pick up a friend so I did not put it on. Don't know what the state F-150s are used for.

Don't NYS Forest Rangers have statewide jurisdiciton? Meaning they can pull you over for speeding even when you're not in a state park?

I considered it northeast
But felt it was paramount because of F150's and where they are showing up

Because people wouldnt expect a pickup for speed enforcement

That is correct, they are Full State Troopers. They include DEC/Park Police and Campus police at state colleges. The law was changed for them to be full troopers over 10 years ago.

I know of at least 5 people that got tickets when they passed them on the Northway Near Saratoga, including my college roommate (lots of state and Federal Parks, Including the large Battlefield Area, Cemetery and the Spa State Park). Most people don't realize they can give out tickets outside of the park.

Is this a real LEO vehicle or somebody who works as a LEO put a bunch of stickers on their truck? Look at the license plate.
The NYS govt license plates are made on a special graphics machine at Auburn Correctional Facility by the inmates. (when you walk by the inmate locker area they all made their own custom plates, over their lockers, - Hitman, Pimp, etc)

www.syracuse.com: Doing time on the license-plate line

If you look at any NYS state vehicle, they don't have the numbers/letters punched into the plate - Same with Custom Plates and those with logos for colleges, sports teams and professional/medical/legal designations (CPA/SMA/EMT). Those plates are essentially a square piece of aluminum with a 3M plastic coating custom printed and heated/skink wrapped around the aluminum. The last I knew NYS makes these custom plates for several states and all the country of Isreal

dmv.ny.gov: Organizations

Each agency, and there are a lot of them, has their Logo Printed on the left side of the plate and generally there is a section or Barracks, Troop and a car/radio number for the troopers.

For example if you were in Barracks 1 Troop D, Car 48, the Plate would Read 1D48 (or 1D 48 - I think the space depends on the inmate operating the machine at the time). When the trooper calls in, he uses that handle (Like Ponch and Jon - 7 Mary 3, 7 Mary 4). If you see a car that does not have the Barracks Designations, those are mostly black or blue now without lettering, those are the Command Staff Cars, Admin Vehicles) If you see and R in the 2nd letter of the plate, that is a Police Academy Vehicle. H is headquarters. M is Manhattan. If you see MRT, that is the Mobile Response Team. EVOC is the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course vehicle, stationed at the academy. they have other special plates they used for Public Events and School Trainings. CONVINCR is one and I think that is the seatbelt/prom crash car. The governors security detail uses other plates, but I cannot remember what the designations are. Motorbikes and 4 wheeler plates are different and the only time I remember looking at them is when the prisoners escaped.

Current and Retired Troopers can get a similar plate, but the logo is slightly different and the lettering system is designated by county and type of vehicle (commercial etc.) You will see some plates that have NYP on the left side lettered from top to Bottom. Those are not NYS or NYC Police, but Rather New York Press Vanity Plates. They are similar to the Paramedics EMTP, Engineer PE, etc.

Now that you know what to look for you can see if the cars is from your area or just traveling through.

Here are some examples of the plates. The Current Version looks like the Uniform Court System Plate, in its design and color.

They also use the pickups to see cellphone violations as they are much higher and have a better view into the cabin of the vehicles next to them.

Hmmm....I wonder if the above explains what I saw when heading West on I84 between exits 4 & 3 this afternoon.
A very dark blue F250 was parked in a cross -road in the median just West of a major scales and truck inspection station/rest area located on the East-bound side of 84.
I was getting Ka 34.7 as I came up and then passed behind the Ford as it was facing the East-bound lanes of 84.
No markings that I could see, but I was a bit too far away to read the plate.
I must say that the variety of Leo vehicles is sure growing!!
