This morning I went from Lubbock to Amarillo via Tucumcari, New Mexico. ;-) About 6 miles North of Clovis New Mexico (where the speed limit is still 45 mph!) I am tooling along wondering if New Mexico's Troopers use instant on. Not a minute later I get my first ping from New Mexico's finest.

I am really liking my Uniden. I doubted I would ever like a detector more than my Redline, but I have to say this R3 beats it.

So what about it? Do New Mexico Troopers use instant on? Or does about every gun have that ability?

Thanks to 87GN and Jag42 for helping me cut the strings to my Redline...

Don't let the New Mexico lull you to sleep. The speed limits are low and traffic is sparse. Many of my friends have gotten tickets in New Mexico. Yes, Ka. And they also run I/O. Mostly 34.7 I think.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about I/O. I knew the road would have near zero traffic which is a recipe for a speeding ticket when facing I/O. He was the only trooper I saw on the trip so not too bad.

Your were doing 43 in a 55 when you past him, lucky he did not pull you over for suspicious driving :) Glad you are enjoying your new toy!

Yeah, I meet him about the time the speed zone transitions from a 45 to a 55. You can see the speed limit sign where it goes to 55 right as I meet him.

Nice ! The Uniden R hammers down on all K and Ka. Are you running Ka segmentation and Ka filter off? @JeredPilot

    Yes, I am running 2, 5, 6 & 8 and the Ka filter off.

I have been wondering if the K band mute memory slows the detector down any? In other words, because the processor is actively comparing each alert with a database of muted locations does it have any negative effect on the overall performance?

@westwind77 much of the time, they don't even look at your speed on their display . They often set a "Target" speed on unit and when that alerts over their Target, then they will look at it and see how fast you're going.

@JeredPilot that's been speculated that either lockouts / muting and/or using GPS slows the whole RD down because of the processing required versus a non-GPS enabled unit like the R1 . If lockouts or GPS are not important or needed, you can always turn off GPS and give it a try. Some early R1 units that @Jag42 & @Brainstorm69 tested were beating the snot out of everything, including the R3 , and the lack of GPS on the R1 was one of our considerations in addition to just a "hot" individual unit ( production variance).

I've always been of the opinion that a pure RD like an R1 or Stir-O will beat a feature rich enabled one every time, but more testing on that hypothesis is needed. Most units that are GPS enabled, however, require the GPS for some type of stationary muting or in Escorts case, they use it for both sensitivity and lockouts ( Autolearn and Auto mode sensitivity setting) .

Yes, My early R1 is blistering Hot and has won many testing events. @Brainstorm69 R1 always trails behind mine. We suspect it is below average but can still edge a Redline. One way to test your R3 @JeredPilot is run with Gps off. I have RL and speed cams disabled when I'm running gps on. I have 3 R3's and my R1 tops them all in our group.

Thanks, @Jag42 and @PointerCone I think I will try stripping the options down and seeing what happens. That's a good idea to turn RL cams off @Jag42 . I already have speed cams off. Even with the K filter on I am still getting plenty of false K Band on the highways. I think my Redline was much worse. So much so that I had K Band completely off on the Redline leaving me vulnerable. That was my main justification for trying the R3. Now, after seeing with my own eyes how it is better than the Redline I am just happy with it period.

Nice detection. I like seeing those alerts when the terrain allows it to give you serious distance. Nice cam, too. Thanks for sharing.
