    I see that Peloton has introduced a new, very nice treadmill at CES 2018 and are selling it at cost (with the hope you'll subscribe for $40 a month for their daily LIVE workouts)......

    Anyone have a Peloton bike and how does it work? Quality? Effectiveness of lady shouting at you to move it??

    Apparently the treadmill has a large 32 inch screen while you run and its also live to a trainer.

    I see that John Legere (CEO of Tmobile) loves it. I think it is a good idea but pretty costly (at least for their spinning bikes). If you have the self motivation to workout, lose weight, better your health, I don't think you need it. I certainly never used those live workouts or any group workout classes when I lost 20 lbs.

    i've never met any cyclist that uses peloton. We tend to associate it more to a spinning class rather than cycling. Most of us use a road bike on a connected trainer and Zwift, the added cost gets expensive, but if you get a good trainer the feel is almost road like and it is pretty fun to roam around the zwift virtual world.

    Most guys from Teens-40's change up diet
    Hit the gym
    And for cardio do indoor/outdoor running
    Maybe 20mins of the bike, stairmaster and some hit the treadmill

    Most of the guys i know over 50 that stay in shape the treadmill is too high impact for them

    The treadmill has its place
    In the gym (wind down) and at home (coat rack)

    At $4000 many more options are available that would give you a better workout for less money

    But if you found the thousands of classes you could access appealing and knew you would follow it with a clean diet

    It would be well worth the price for the long term motivation alone

    Never heard of Zwift. It does look very nice. I will have to take a further look into it. Have also thought about getting a trainer for my road bike but I'm not a hardcore cyclist. My upright is good enough for me. :)

    Not true, I've worn out 3 treadmills over so many years and use them almost daily. Its in the basement and does get boring, but also gets results. A nice brisk walk followed by a run and then cool down gets you goiong for the day in 0 degree weather. I've been asking @CJR238 about sourcing a new one , BUT its been crickets :confused:

    Just got word on this the other day.

    Treadmill looks cool, though impracticable. Kind of like there silly bike. lol

    The first is the killer. The Peleton treadmill a slatted treadmill, so it is going to be a unicushioned. Built like a chuck Taylor sneaker, with the same give on impact as push off. Every bit of running shoe data, every treadmill cushion study, all recommend a forward cushion that gives on impact and then stabilizes. Peleton makes good content, but almost all brands use a version of that, Precor, Cybex and True, for a reason. Slatted treadmills derive their cushion from the surface of the slat which has to give the same on impact as push off.

    The second is Service. Spinning bikes are one thing, but treadmills need more service than any other type of machine, based on the amount of pounding they take. As it is, Peleton’s service network is an issue. Adding a treadmill to that is going to put a huge load onto their ability to service. And who is going to provide the parts?
    And this is a 4k machine, with a large console eating up some of the cost, and least 1k. If someone could build a 3k slatted motorized tread that was really durable, it should have come out by now. The NYtimes calls it expensive, but in reality, it is not expensive enough to support the type of product it is.

    And Peleton is a content company, and we all know the issues with Treadmills and VR. Spinning classes and spinning bikes make sense, but the content on a treadmill is very different. While there are a few treadmill tabata classes, they involve constant getting on and off the machine. There is a reason all the gyms don’t do treadmill classes.

    X2, I have sold hundreds of thousands of treadmills to people for use in there homes with great success, actually better success than going to a club. Also my 70+ year old parents who still go on roller coaster rides with the kids use a treadmill every day.

    Just let me know when you are serous PC and i am your man. lol
    [doublepost=1515700553][/doublepost]
    And that can be done with a tablet, why buy a meh bike or treadmill with a fancy display when you can get a better quality product and utilize tablet technology with no limitations.

    I have a very nice spinning bike that I use all the time. It’s called a Schwinn AC Performance Plus. It’s some of the best exercising you can get. I also use the Peloton app with my iPad attached to my bike. I thought about buying the Peloton bike to replace mine with but didn’t for several reasons. First it’s not as high-quality as the Schwinn performance plus. Second I don’t want to be committed to them for their classes. Right now there is only one instructor I can listen to because the rest use extremely foul language during the rides and play music with foul language. I don’t need that. If you don’t mind some person you don’t know swearing at you while playing explicit music that would make even a stripper blush then I highly recommend their program and the Peloton bike itself. The screen is awesome and like I said the exercise itself is great and easy on the legs and knees especially for older people. I have demoed the actual bike several times.

    I have a Peloton. I love it. The build quality of the bike is worth more then the price they charge. It's very smooth, quiet, and strong. It adjust easily as well.
    The classes are what makes it good though. You can attend live classes or prerecorded ones. Either way its very engaging and all the trainers are top notch. The live classes are cool because the instructors try to keep the online riders (that she can see on her screen) engaged by calling them out or throwing out birthday announcements.

    You can chose your classes by genre, exercise level, time, or type of workout. The screen is basically a very large Android Tablet. The part I love is you can blue tooth it to your home theatre receiver for a full sound experience. It will also pair to small bluetooth speakers or your headphones. The screen can also be screen casted to your big screen TV so you can really feel like your there.

    You'll slowly find a few instructors you really like either because they're really good, more motivating to you, smoking hot, or all of the above..lol

    I've been riding the Peloton for a while now and I've never heard swearing like your saying.

    I too have a Peloton...granted my wife uses it a lot more as she does a daily ride or two..It adjusts super easy I am 6'2 230lbs and she is 5'5 118lbs a few minor adjustments one way or another and we both ride just fine,,,The bike itself is ultra quiet...my wife rides at 5am daily in the room adjacent too or 1 and half year old and she doesn't stir a bit..I've stood outside the room and you wouldn't even know it is being used... Just asked my wife and she said she has almost 500 rides to date and never noticed profanity other than the occasional move that ass cheer... The classes are well thought out and for someone like me who wouldn't be caught dead in a spin class they are awesome... 20-30 min rides I can usually burn 500-600 calories and have fun while doing so... I have always been a poor, heavy footed runner so needless to say my joints are happy I stay away from treadmills...

    Well that seems pretty cool!

    I'll have to check if my place has those. I run on them but haven't looked at the brand. They all have nice screens hooked up to WiFi and cable with Bluetooth capabilities.

    Although I just look at my running data and listen to music

    I believe I said everything you did. I agree with everything you said. However having children I would never ever never ever put the instructors on a Bluetooth speaker system throughout my house. I do not need my kids hearing Jess stand on her bike and scream at the top of her lungs “how many of you people got laid last night”? Or Robin throw the F bomb every 30 seconds. Even the feminine Cody can’t help himself from slinging profanity from time to time. And the music, don’t even go there with me. It’s a shame that this company has made the decision that they have to allow these instructors to sound like 1970s drill instructors at Marine boot camp. Let me ask you this. How would you feel if you and your spouse went into a restaurant with your kids, sat down and the waitress walked up to you and said how that F-ing F are you two tonight? What nice F-ing kids you have. “? Actually I think there are some in here that probably wouldn’t mind that however I’m pretty confident the vast majority of Americans would still be displeased.

    If Peloton as a company would abolish profanity from their instructors and their music like any other gym that you would walk into I would buy one of their bikes in a heartbeat. Even know the bike I have now is superior to it.
    [doublepost=1515757037][/doublepost]
    Never noticed profanity????? Lol Ok man. Robin uses the F bomb more than she uses the word “the”

    Their classes remind me of my ships when I was in the Navy. Swear words were used as adjectives. Anyway enjoy your bike. It truly is an awesome bike and the tablet it comes with is fantastic. Also as I said before that type of exercise is perfect and you can knock it out quick. 45 minutes and you’re done.

    I didn't relies the spinning videos for the Peloton included profanity. lol But spinning classes are high intensity and can see them go there.

    Thanks for the additional ammo to sell against this bike. :)

    I’ve been to that restaurant many times. It’s fun with them playing rude and all. However I don’t ever recall them using profanity. Are they doing that now? It’s been a few years since I’ve been to one.

    I am short of time today but I will take 10-15 minuets to do a short clip of multiple Peloton instructors using profanity. Should not be hard. I don’t see why you are being so stubborn about this. How about perhaps your wife doesn’t pay that much attention to it? Most people these days seem unphased by it anyway. When I called Peloton management about this they admitted their instructors perhaps used too much profanity but they said their clients didn’t mind. Or of course I could be full of s%#t and lying about all this too right? Ill post a video.

    @Gothamnyc
    [doublepost=1515857122,1515855387][/doublepost]Listen after watching about 15 minutes and three instructors I got a bunch of the “a” words and “s” words. There are definitely F words in there also but I am not going to watch 10 videos all day. Here’s one example. Robin probably has one at the filthiest mouths on there next to Jess. This is why I watch Hannah Marie Corbin. She never swears and is awesome. Very technical too.
