Now you tell me. haha Missed out on a good deal but the seller didn't have a receipt to transfer just in case. Never-the-less if I end up returning my unit I'll just take it a test drive fee. Still good to have the warranty without a doubt.

    Well not a simple question.
    Depends. Hows that :)
Depends on your environment. Lots of trees/leaves,hills,curves, mountains, buildings? You will get shorter alerts than me here in the flat, treeless envoronment I drive in often. We have hills for sure and the range is reduced by hills etc. Bottom line and good rule of thumb friend is always remember....if the detector cannot see it it cannot alert to it.
Whatever unit you have...does it give you adequate distance/alert to slow down to PSL?
Here on this forum we test. A bunch. These guys birth certificates say "tester" right there on them right next to their footprint. www.rdforum.org: Countermeasure Testing & Related Videos
They are testing for a units sensitivity. How sensitive it is to certain radar bands used by Fudds, K/Ka mainly.
You want the sensitivity. Range is often times overemphasized in my humble opinion simply because of the aforementioned reasons....Mine and your may be different. Doesn't mean you have a cold unit and I have a hot unit.
Another thing folks do is test against speed signs or door openers. These fluctuate all to hell and are not a reliable benchmark as it relates to performance.
Sorta like BSM false filtering. One day you may hit multiple offenders and the next none. You didnt change anything on your unit. The environment changed.
So...with the variables of a changing environment I always just say....
Does your unit reliably alert you to a real threat in adequate time to react?
Does it filter false alerts to the point your not a victim of ignoring a real threat due constant false alerts?
Like anything else....what makes me happy may not make you happy.
So read all you can....watch some videos from Vortex The Wild Man, program/configure your unit based on what you learn from your own experience/others sharing and give your unit a chance to perform.
Hows that for not answering your question in a hundred words?

You can't,,,, unless you sent it to TXCTG for benchmarking.I had my R3 for a long time already and only got to alert this to more than a mile detection maybe less than 5 times. Is it cold? Nope...... cause I know it up against a difficult TERRAIN............... terrain, terrain, terrain.

So the sum of this thread is "I'm getting married soon and would like the number for a good divorce attorney because you never know".

Add..."because I'm already married" and I think you've nailed it.

well his main worry is if he will have protection.

first off, if you don’t own another high end detector, you may get a short Ka reading which is accurate and think your unit is cold bc your not aware of how they function.

secondly, unidens customer service/warranty is excellent so if you send them a unit for repair, they will fix it. They did for me in a day, and my unit is now out performing my v1 on Ka band and has better BSM filtering. they also sent me a replacement with clean lenses, no scratches (for free), when i should have been charged.
