I stopped by the Whistler booth here at CES this morning to check out the new Whistler radar detectors. They’re going to be called the Pro-710 and Pro-725. These are the successors to the CR88 and CR93. They’re going to have up to a 3db improvement on K band and up to a 6db improvement on Ka band (4-6db, depending on the Ka frequency).

I don’t know if they’re going to have detectors or boxes to show (I saw a mockup box for the Pro-710 that’s not the final version). I’m going to be heading back to the Whistler booth later today to chat with Mike B some more and then shoot a video about it. (The show just opened and everyone’s still getting last minute setup stuff done ready and I’m just floating around saying hi to people in the area before doing the interviews. When I get more info this afternoon, I'll post more info here.)

It sounds like the core hardware underlying the new iterations is not new. Does that mean it's still the direct opposite of "stealth" for those who need to be invisible to Spectre Elite units? In our testing, the CR93 was lighting up the Spectre hard over a mile away, and that was only course (terrain) limited.

I would guess 35.5 has the 4db boost
Which will improve it from absolutely terrible to just slightly below average

The detectors should look the same as the predecessors. Just a different name and sensitivity level.

I went back a few times today but Mike was busy or meetings so we didn't have a chance to chat today. I'll head back tomorrow and report then.

So there is a hardware difference with the new models. He didn’t tell me anything specific, but it’s more than a software update.

It's definitely good to see Whistler continuing to do things. +4dB/+6dB sounds like it's the right level of boost to make them not completely irrelevant to the modern CM scene. But I still am not convinced that's going to win any prizes (I'd predict it turns it into a segmented Escort iX or LRD950 sort of performer in terms of range)...

That seems too little too late in today's market.

I wonder if he's specing Attowave stuff? Many companies use it, just that some, like Uniden, get exclusives.

Yeah, I'm interested to hear more details on what they've done, and see some tests.

Nope. There really isn’t much to say about it that would warrant a dedicated video so I just talked about it in my CES Highlights video instead.
