I recall reading or being told that results for the LI 8.20 versus Dragon Eye are likely in an elevated forum above Intermediate. Who knows when I'll have access to that. But since LI's are considered end of life, perhaps someone can just PM me and tell me what the results were. I'm 90% sure my local LEOs started using DE a few months ago and and thus far I've been able to JTK and avoid any tickets. But I'm interested to hear what other people experienced, limitations, distances, etc. from the results. (No need to comment that I should get an ALP...heard that several times.)

If your local LEO's were using Dragon Eye's you surely would have been ticketed already unless you are driving under their threshold with that system.

PM me when you get a chance. I held out for quite a while and tested with a lot of the DE.

Especially if they just got DragonEyes a few months ago rather than years ago, you really want to switch to an alternate system. And emphasis on really!

I "heard" Ft. Worth had the cave dweller aka Dragon Eye but that is the only town in Texas I know of and cannot even confirm that. As recently as Saturday I still have jammed everything I have ran into w/LI 8.18 and will update to 8.20 tomorrow. Dragon Eye Technology is a bitch I agree but they are such a small company many states purchasing guidelines dont allow them even to bid. Bottom line is yes they are out there but not much at all. I am totally confident in the LI setup I have right now for the guns around me. Most departments are not upgrading their equipment as they have no reason to.

We know for sure Tarrant County has a Dragon Eye compact since we've seen it in action in a media segment.

There's a report of an ERF forum member that was ticked with one in the Houston area in 2013. I could never get any follow up intelligence on the incident. However, another RDF member in very good standing reported a DETC at work around the area where Precinct 5 and Precinct 7 intersect in SW Houston. Which is also where our local DET distributor Coban Tech resides so I imagine they dropped one in an officers hands for field testing. I suspect both incidents were probably the same officer, if it's a moto cop I suspect a P5 constable.

Yeah I just have not seen them at all. I do have exposure on the State level purchasing and I can share Dragon Eye is not even a approved mfg/vendor. Now obviously a local entity can buy whatever they wish but they usually follow State purchasing guidelines and vendor list.
I am not even remotely worried about the Dragon Eye.
I have a better chance of being eaten by a bear than getting hit with DET.

Doesn't Decatur Electronics distribute the Dragon Eye also? Are they on any approved vendor lists in TX?

I've never seen one in person in the field. As for purchasing you want to look for Coban Technologies, but that's a mixed bag because they are a licensed vendor for Harris County but they typically only supply vehicle and body cams.

Also look for Decatur electronics. They distribute the Dragon Eye as well. I vaguely recall seeing them on the Galveston County vendor list but can't remember what year. In the field GCSO seems to still be all LTi products.

Well it never is about the distributor The State has manufacturer guidelines for warranty purposes and ongoing support. Smaller mfg companies cannot meet the guidelines from a financial perspective. They would be required to put up a fairly large bond to even get on the approved mfg list. They do not wish to buy a product the company goes out of business and they are stuck with no way to upgrade etc.

Here we go, I finally found the PDF from a few years ago. GCAC agreement with Coban. They indicate purchase of a DET Compact. So there's another one bouncing around Galveston County, but I haven't seen it and I run around that area a lot.

Yes I am very familiar with that purchasing council. That expired contract is not an order it is an agreement to sell the co-op or its members those items for the cost agreed to. Probably was never delivered to anybody is usually how those things go.

Decatur Electronics is selling the Dragoneye, they are an approved vendor, not only for the state of Texas, but all states. Not saying they are there, but they can purchase them.

Sure anybody can purchase them. Never said they couldn't....but....that isnt how it works @ the State level. Submit a RFQ/PO for a specific need and the Purchasing Department goes to its MFG database where (in Texas anyway) you will find LTI. No DragonEye Technology anywhere.
Now a county/city whatever can still call up a distributor or manufacturer and request they bid on a open PO. Sure they can. But it wouldnt be a common thing for them to go against published protocol or approved vendor list.
Again let me say this as clear as I can...
Decatur is a distributor and not a manufacturer. Big difference.

Texas anyway has formed various regional purchasing cooperatives.
If say Decatur submitted a Dragon eye in response to a RFQ the coop will run that manufacturer and it will not be listed w/State. pretty much DOA right there.

I am not advocating one way or the other here guys. Just many years of playing the game here in Texas.

Well, I guess we know that they're not buying them at least but we also know DET donates guns to officers to test drive. So there are possibly a few out there. Isn't Tarrant County in your neck of the woods @The Only Sarge? Sniff around and see if it was a "gimmie" or they bought it outright.

I was born and raised in Hurst outside of Ft. Worth but hauled ass 45 years ago:) I am in South Texas between Austin/San Antonio. I will PM you as I am walking a fine line here what I say in public.
Bottom line for me is you have a better chance meeting and french kissing The Queen than running into a DET in Texas.
This is not about ALP vs. LI.

Hey I am going to use my Linux Notebook. I have WINE so I have the latest Communicator running in Linux. Is the 8.20 firmware update really only 22Kb?

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

Never mind I updated to 8.20 and lt is loaded and tested. All good.

That is a possibility. But I think it's also within reason to think that I got enough functionality out of the old LI's that I slowed down enough to get below the threshold. Timing (and distance) are huge factors and yeah, I may not be so lucky if I'm in the IPT range.

It's not a matter of "if" but when. When I get new system, it'll go on my M3 vs my Acura though. Still content (and still getting saves) with my end-of-life LIs where I travel.

If you got hit with a modern day compact running LI 8.20's
You should just wire a gramophone on the front of all your cars

It will have the same testing numbers
