Dying to disable K-band on my new R3 on a road trip. Shall I?

Hey guys, just traveled from NY to FL via PA, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA.
The RDFGS is down as far as I can see, but I did get the Excel version which unfortunately does not always list the State Police (just counties) and also says stuff like 35.5 without saying if that is K or Ka (I assume Ka?)

So I have a very specific question about bands in use in these states on the INTERSTATES only.

I had a few great R3 saves and IIRC most were Ka band. I had a lot of K falses, most likely from luxury cars and their smart radar based cruise or whatever else they use. But the falses were so frequent, that I want to shut K band off on my return leg and next time I travel to FL.

So my question is: is it safe to disable K band on my R3 in ALL OF these states (only interstate hwys), or shall I turn in back on in some?

I am copying the states again below if someone is kind enough to answer, thanks!

I do not travel through any of those states. If I did I would run K band narrow at 40% advanced, K filter on. Many will disagree with me, but I like TSF on for even more filtering.
The only place I would feel mostly safe to kill K band is in California (where I’m at). I still run K narrow, City, TSF on just for awareness.

I’ll bet there are others here with more experience in those areas that have good advice.

PA is k band only. So it is a must for that state. Just did a 10 hour run up through Ga TN KY and Ohio, Running Netradar, highway Ran mine in City mode, because of heavy traffic.

Don't disable it in the greater Atlanta area along I75. I have seen GSP and GDPS shooting K recently. I posted a video of an instance not so recently but close enough.

I have tried TSF on and it didn't seem to degrade the K band performance at at all. On the drive to work one day I didn't have a single K band false alarm. It was so quiet I thought something was wrong with it! No Buicks on the road that day so that helped some lol.

My R1 only really falsed to some stationary door openers and rlc's that's it. I ran TSF, k narrow, and 70% sensitivity. Great detector on highways with not many lights, or stores.

If you can I suggest trying the Radenso Pro M which has the best K filtering on the market. Try them both and keep the one you like. Heads up, the Pro M won't drive you crazy.

Leave it on in West Virginia. On I-77/19 you're more likely to see 34.7 and 35.5 over K band.. but as you move north towards PA and all up I-79, K-band is actually much more common than Ka...

We have mainly Ka on Interstates in OK. K pops up in some areas, but not often. I also wish I could shut my K off on my R3 with the latest updates because it falses ALL THE TIME. I have used the Vortex settings, and even filtered it a bit more than that. It is almost unusable. I wish I had waited and gotten a Pro M. I may still.

Did it false that much on the previous firmware? If not, why don't you just roll back to the previous firmware (which is most likely 1.37)?

I wouldn’t, just did the drive last week from NNJ to Naples, FL. With the R3. Pretty much 95 whole way. We got lit up with K in SC on 95. He had someone pulled over. I didn’t look to see specific frequency but just remember saying wholly crap that’s K. We are heading back tonight so I’ll let you know if anymore K.

I need to correct my previous post it was Georgia. Close to SC border. Last night driving back between 1:30 AM and 2:00 AM I got hit twice with K on 95. Plenty of warning at 60%. One LEO in median blasting away and the other about 10 miles up had someone already pulled over. Just when I thought things were over Waze warns me of Police ahead. I slowed to 75 in the 70 and within a minute my R3 starts bleeping Laser. I’ve had it for a year and this was the first time I heard Laser warning. It was about 5 miles from SC border. He was in an SUV sitting on the right shoulder. Door open standing outside his car pointing right at me. Thank you Wazer who posted, you saved my bacon!!

This is an old thread btw.
But yeah, don't disable k band. I even tell the gf to leave it on and she now does after having close calls on real k band encounters.

No matter how rare it may seem, k band is an active threat and likely will remain one for a long time.

It will show up when you least expect it.

Thanks, Agreed, and know the I75 Cherokee County GA speed trap uses K along with everything else but X.

Agreed. In my journey over to the South FL Winter meetup I'm sure I'll come across some K band enforcement whereas on my side of the state K is rarely used.

Rather than totally disable K band, at least use it in city mode in urban areas or even 40% so you will have some K band protection.
