The cops were out the Sunday after Thanksgiving (as expected). I was in my dad's car without my R1, so I wasn't pushing it more than 9 over.

Anyway, I was passing a truck when what looked like a Honda Insight was rapidly approaching. Not wanting to be a LLH, I sped up to 80/65 and got right then just about had my doors blown off by the least fuel economy concerned Insight driver ever. Somebody else was also using him as a rabbit. A few minutes later I saw a truck in the distance change lanes for what appeared to be no reason and slowed down assuming it was a cop. Sure enough, the Insight driver was having a roadside chat.

A little bit later, I got passed by a truck then got a Waze alert for police ahead and slowed down before going around a corner. I saw the cop on an overpass and he started to move and put on his lights. The truck got pulled over and the cop was apparently in a hurry since he opened the door and walked out within seconds. If only the guy getting pulled over would've been using Waze.

The order of events was almost comical during the second one. All this happened in a span of about 60 seconds:
    Passed by truck
    "Police Reported Ahead"
    Truck doesn't slow down
Cop around corner flips on lights

I really wish I was in my car with my dash cam.

I have to remind myself when I'm driving that not every body uses CM's. I will see a big police trap coming on waze (or radar or laser alerts on other CM's) and start slowing down and then I see other people speeding up and start passing me and I think to myself WTF why are you speeding up there is a speed trap ahead... then it hits me... oh wait then don't have any CM's they don't know there is a speed trap coming up... then the smugness of ooo I'm gonna see them get get pulled over settles in as I watch them slam on their brakes when they finally see the LEO. then the roadside disco ensues.

It's a great feeling when you're 99% sure there's a cop ahead (like Ka band + Waze alert) and slow down when everybody else keeps speeding by. They probably think you're just an idiot who can't keep a consistent speed until they go around the corner and see why you slowed down.

I love doing that to people who make me the rabbit and I know there is a police trap coming up so I slow down back to PSL to make them mad on the left lane and then when we get close I go to the right side and then let him pass PSL +15 and then let the disco party begin. Yea a little sadist, but I do enjoy when a fellow driver takes turns on being the rabbit, one time I had 3 rabbits to follow and all the did was play jump frog with each other, no tickets as far as I know but it was a great taxi to town.

But, they aren’t spending all that money for RDs and LJs. They want to pay court costs and insurance premiums.

When I was younger before I could even learn to drive, my parents would tell me "if you start seeing breaklights up ahead start slowing down as well, usually there is a hazard/cop up ahead" have been ingrained since. Saved me multiple times before I even found out about Waze and CMs. I've runned Waze religiously soon after I got my licence and has saved me countless times. I've only recently purchased my first detector and wondering how I lived without it at all. Haven't had a fine ever in the 5 years I've had my licence.

Add slowing down to PSL+5-9 on crests and when approaching entrance ramps to your technique, you'll be golden for years to come. Your CM's are just a plus..

and to add to that, on entrance ramps, I always watch not just my six, BUT my 4 as they will sit there and shoot you in the rear or pace you on the entrance ramp. Its usually a nice safe place for them to sit since the traffic vlume is a LOT less than sitting on the highway.

It still comes down to the nut behind the wheel. CM's just make the job of driving above the posted speed limit easier.
I was in sales in the mid-eighties and part of my territory was western NY. I would have other sales people who'd ride along and sit in on appointments when I was up there. Every police department even back then was running radar through out the state of NY.

Everyone of those people that rode along with me had multiple tickets and not one owned a radar detector. They were shocked how my X-K band Escort radar detector was protecting me during our days on the road.

What really surprises me is how few people are using a CB radio today when traveling on the interstates. In the 80's, 90's and into the early 2000's most of the time I was tipped off to the cop and his radar gun way before I got with in detection range.

    Teamsters union broke up
    Trucking industry deregulated
    They make crap now
They are going to lo jack every truck starting in a year or two
Then theyll make less than crap

Only good drivers on the interstate these days are old timers

Every trucker under 35 seems to be parked in the left lane strangling himself with his own CB wire
Hell bent on ruining every last drivers day behind him because hes governed to 72mph

I often wonder why people don't notice or care when I'm going 80+ then slow to the speed limit suddenly and they just give you a look and drive on by or start tailgating. If any speeding car suddenly drops speed I'm watching out for police, something in the road, etc..seems like common sense.

Same kind of thing happened to me in Pensacola. Was on the bridge going intoPensacola and R3 went off at the beginning of the bridge. I was in front of a suv and when I slowed down, the suv passed me. Then waze said Police ahead. I’ve tried to warn people in the past in situations like that but they just look at you like you’re crazy and sometimes speed up to get away from you. Said to Wife we get to watch him get a ticket. It was one of the times She didn’t complain about the noise from the R3. Sure enough the suv was greeted by Pensacola’s finest.
There were two cars waiting for him. The toll collector in the booth smiled and winked at me since the R3 was still screaming. They got a dollar from me to enter. Don’t know how much the suv was charged but They probably still got a dollar plus the ticket from him.

I gave up trying to warn other people a long time ago. They just look at you like you're crazy or being an a*hole. I don't know why more people don't use waze, it has saved me from road hazards like 2x4s and such so many times you wouldn't believe it, let alone marking the police.
