Will YaV1 run on an android based car stereo? I am looking all over and can't find a straight answer. I'm sure someone on this forum has tried but I must be searching the wrong things. Is there anything specific a head unit needs to run this? Is anyone doing this currently? Any info would be appreciated!

    That's a good question.

Can you sideload apps to the head unit? Does the head unit have the ability to connect to Bluetooth devices? What version Android is the head unit running? Also, does the head unit have GPS capacity?

    Not sure what that means...

Does the head unit have the ability to connect to Bluetooth devices?
    Yes

What version Android is the head unit running?
    Anywhere from 4.0 to 6.0

Also, does the head unit have GPS capacity?
    Yes most do

There are lots of different models. Tons to choose from. I am just wondering if it's possible, if I need a certain type or capability, and if it works well.

"Sideloading" means installing from a source other than the Google Play Store.

Based on your answers, it SHOULD be able to run as long as it can pair with the V1's Bluetooth dongle. But don't quote me on that.

This is not exactly what I'm talking about. This is mirroring from your phone onto the head unit screen. To do this I would need an android phone and have it hooked up to the head unit and V1. I currently have an iPhone and don't plan on changing that. I am wondering if I can use an android head unit as my permanent YaV1 "phone" in a car like others do. But at least this shows it can be back doored. I may be forced to do that if I cannot make anything else work.

I think even though technically you should be able to I suspect where you will mostly likely run into issues will be Bluetooth.

The Car Radio is typically a "Slave Device" and not a "Master" that communicates with several slave devices.

Your Car Radio is essentially a Bluetooth Speaker "Device" (with Hands Free for Calling)

So it would be tricky for the Car Radio to be both a "Master" to the V1 Dongle "Device" and the Radio be a "Slave Device" to your "Master" phone (at the same time !!).

Technically this may be possible and supported by Bluetooth specs but rather doubtful a Radio Manufacturer would bother to support a UI for it because of the low number of users that would need/want it.

Before even bothering with trying to install it, look to see if there is a way to pair the dongle. I doubt you'll find it. If you do, it might just work.

I have seen several people using OBD2 Bluetooth devices and an app to read the info on their android head units. I would think that is the same principle. I agree that having my phone hooked up at the same time would be difficult but its not needed if I can download music to the head unit while in my garage on wifi and then drive around playing Spotify offline.

I agree, if folks have used OBD2 BT devices successfully then there is a chance YaV1 (or any BT CM App) would work too.

Does your radio have a Bluetooth "Pairing" Setup Page in Settings?

I haven't purchased one yet. I am trying to do some research before I waste money. I am also wondering if there is a certain android platform I need to make this work and there are tons of different radios with different platforms. Most have what's called "lollipop" and I have no clue what that means lol

Lollipop is the "codename" for Android 5.0: Android – 5.0 Lollipop

Lollipop is the minimum version the Android ESP Library from Valentine Targets (and likely YaV1's minimum target version as well).
