That should be written on a speeding constitution. I agree 1000%. I used to speed without CM's for years until I bought my first CM (the redline). I just used my eyes, situational awareness & rabbits for 8 years. I never knew how radars or laser even worked until I came to this forum last year. Everything was based on feel and experience. Following the old teachings of the old timers of speeding. Slow down to +10 at every crest, exit/entrance lanes and bridges. Using rabbits, etc. And I'm proud to say *knock on wood* I've been ticket free in my 10 years of driving due to my discipline and I drive pretty heavy footed. Plus I don't even have laser jammers (although eventually I might get them). CM's are only as good as the user behind it. I only use RD's and waze now after learning the law of the road.

P.S - I am so strong on this belief it's been in my signature and I'm sure no one has noticed. I have more eye saves than saves from my R3 from the time I started counting.

Okay, so why are you so unwilling to compromise and discuss things with your parents? I obviously don't always agree with everything my parents do. Sometimes I'm the one who thinks they should do something one way or another, and after a discussion, I end up changing their minds. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail. One time that sticks in mind (light tile roof vs composite roof), I failed. Then a few years later, the tiles got broken by the people tenting the house for termites and they had to hire a roofer to fix them. Their response? "We should have listened to you." Oh well, they know next time.

But there's been success stories too. Like the time I told them that they should absolutely not install a wireless alarm system, but should put in the time to "do it right" like it's done in a new house, with one zone per window and wired sensors everywhere. I even volunteered to do a lot of the work drilling the holes and running the wires for them, and saved them about $2000 on install costs. They're pretty glad that they're not forever replacing sensor batteries (their house has over 35 windows/doors).

Haha one of my friends goes 25-30 over PSL haha! I actually want him to get a ticket because he drives like a maniac haha!!

Yah I understand that :/ that's the only reason I wouldn't want to drop $300 on a radar!! But I don't think lasers are too common in my town

With regard to laser jammers: Would you rather have them and not need them, or need them and not have them? At some point, you'll need them. LIDAR guns are just as cheap as RADAR nowadays and departments are acquiring more and more of them.

If you really only drive 5-10 over save your money like what was said. Everyone justifys having an RD differently. I'm not saying don't get one just make sure you are going to get your moneys worth.

I personaly spent a good deal of time on the forums learning before jumping back into the RD game. I'm not a huge speeder at +15-25 so for me the RDs are more of a technical hobby.

My 2 cents is spend some time on RDF and learn about the many options of RDs and find your reason for wanting one other than my buddies have RDs.

I understand man!! It's just something I've wanted for a while!! I feel like it would help out a lot because I'm going 5-10 over because I'm so afraid of getting a ticket and PARENTS flipping out. I mean many people spend money on subwoofers and other car bullshit (which isn't too practical.) I'm not saying this would be practical, but could for sure save my ass!!!

Oh parents... if I tell my kid not to do something that'll definitely scare them away from it!

Let me tell you, me, and almost every other kid on planet just rebels more the more strict their parents try to be.

Even with the best counter-measures, there is still the strong likelihood that eventually you will be stopped and given a ticket if you speed. It isn't a question of IF it's going to happen, it's more like WHEN is it going to happen. RDs and Parking Sensors reduce your chances of getting a ticket but do not eliminate it entirely. Also, at your age, a ticket will greatly increase your cost for insurance.
Save your money for college, rent for your own place, etc. When you get to the point in your life that you can afford to get a ticket, only then would I suggest getting an RD and LASER protection. You have to "pay to play".

I've tried explaining a dozen times that I could be doing a lot worse stuff like drinking and driving, texting and driving, etc, but they still dismiss what I have to say... I don't know how my parents know I'm not speeding without a radar!! Radar wouldn't change my driving style much hahaha!!

THIS. 1000% Using an RD is a pay to play game. If you can't afford getting caught don't use one.

I would totally get one. I think drivers on the road that don't have SOMETHING are stupid. I see their point of view because I kinda went through that also. Constantly scanning for cops at 5-7 over psl has made me a much better and more alert driver. They think you're just gonna get one a be a speed demon. In that event they're right. If you want it to keep yourself out of a stupid 11 over speeding ticket or rolling through a stop sign with that cop you didn't see, then get one and hide it.

^^^ Sorry but I’m with RadarScout. Once you are TOTALLY off of your parents’ support get your detector. Until then, their rules should be respected and followed. Tough love kid.

    1. Stay at home as long as you can, life isn't easier on your own.
2.Listen to your parents man I hated it but I did it as it's was there house.
3.Radars are the last thing you should be thinking about, go fishing (wink wink)
4.it's not worth the risk until you understand how it all works, I learned this the hard way with a cobra.

Just tell them you want a Sport Bike Motorcycle instead and I am pretty sure you will get the RD of your choice for Christmas. :)

Willful ignorance. They know, they just rather not. Buying a detector is confirmation.

Ask yourself, Are you ready to start paying for your own insurance if they catch you with a detector?

Being i bought both my kids RD's I should add what i put them through.

I did not allow them to drive with out me till they were 18, and when i got them there first car ($500 V8 jeep) they had to pay for there portion of insurance and pay for all there gas as well as repairs. I deliberately got them a gas guzzler to limit there driving and teach them that they need a paying job to make it anywhere in life. Even charged them rent there last few years with me. lol

They were out on there own, working, buying there own cars, paying there own insurance by the time they were 22/23. Needless to say i am very proud of them and they are both very successful in there respective fields.
