This weekend, I drove down to Maryland and back for my cousin's wedding. I got to put my new R3 through it's paces. For those that are regulars on this forum, know that I have not been happy with the performance of my R3. Well, after getting a replacement under warranty, let me freaking tell you, this thing is a BEAST!!! An absolutely MONSTER on all bands, but especially Ka, on all three most common frequencies. We took my wife's car, so I don't have a video of this encounter, nor did I have jammers, but I'll do my best to describe it. We had just gotten back into Jersey, 295 to be exact. It's only two lanes each way, but there wasn't much traffic, and it was flowing along at a pretty good clip. I had been stuck in traffic for hours, so the open road was a welcome sign, and I just wanted to get home. I was cruising along in the left lane, when the R3 chirped Ka 34.6XX and quickly ramped up to full alert. I immediately get on the brakes, and move over to the right lane. As I'm finishing my entry into the right lane, we come around a sweeping right handed curve. Around the curve, is a NJ State Trooper, parked parallel, shooting lidar! He had left his radar on obviously. It's hard to describe without a video, but the angle at which the trooper was parked, and the incredibly long distance the R3 alerted me, most likely saved me from a lidar ticket! I couldn't believe it, and this is just one of many incredible encounters I had with this thing. It picked up FF radar, at an angle, on the other side of a hill, from a distance you would never expect from a radar detector. This thing is an absolute BEAST!

In addition, the features of this thing are just amazing. Here in NJ, we don't have speed cams or red light cams. But being in Maryland, I got to utilize both of those features, and let me tell you, both worked without a hitch and I'm certain had I not had a R3, I would be receiving a speed cam ticket from Maryland. It was a rough start for me and the R3, but to say I'm happy with it now would be an understatement.

A big thanks to Tom at @BestRadarDetectors for going above and beyond with his customer service. You really won't find his level of commitment from anyone else in the industry. To all those who tested the R's, @Jag42 @Brainstorm69 @Vortex @hiddencam and others, and posted their test results, thank you. I am finally able to confirm what you guys are seeing in your testing. This thing is so damn hot, that I'm actually thinking of dialing back the sensitivity on Ka, b/c I got soooo many alerts where I never even saw the LEO. Yes, it's that damn good!

Did the R3 pick up the Lidar?

It didn't, but I had it mounted way up high on a SUV. It did pick up lidar here though in my car, which is low to the ground, and my R3 was in the middle of the windshield.

Salty with an "Unsalty" post. LOL.

Nice man, glad it's doing its thing. Guess you'll have to send that to NNJCTG to make you happy. Hoping we can find the same findings as you

I challenge you to find a "salty" post of mine, that was posted recently. :D

And I don't need this thing tested, b/c it's that freaking GOOD. But, having said that, I'd love to join in the next one whenever that is, if I can.

Damn @Salty and to think you were actually thinking of a Max360C for your daily driver ;)

Yes, the R3 is that good. Nice to see you FU%$^&* posting again my friend :)

    --- Post updated ---

Its sooooo good on radar, it doesnt have to pick up lidar because the R3 knows that it wouldnt make a difference anyway, so it concentrates its efforts on radar!! ;)

Thanks Glenn! Good to be back posting again. I know you're joking about the 360C, but in case others can't tell. I never considered buying it. ;)

Sorry but how do you dial back KA?

Is yours updated to firmware 1.31? If so, when you scroll through the menu, you'll see that Ka is set to 100%. Hitting the menu button while on this setting, you can cycle through the sensitivity from 100% all the way t0 30%, I believe in 10% increments. You can do this with all 3 bands, but I don't really advise doing it with Ka, unless you drive in flat terrain and get miles and miles of range. If I live in Texas, I would definitely dial mine back, but that's just me.

See? With arrows you would have known if the KA alert was in front of you (concern), behind you (little concern) or beside you, down some side-street (NO concern)... ;)

I'm glad you are in the same boat, drinking the same kool aid as the rest of us "R" users/testers!! :p
