    Hello,

I just bought the whistler pro-78se. What settings are best to use for this in 2017? My model doesn’t have tfsr filter. I get a lot of false positives in Long Island New York.

Or which settings works best for you guys?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to RDF @Style!

Well, the good thing is you're here. The Pro-78SE was a reasonable budget option several years ago, but has nowhere near the performance or filtering of any modern detector. You can already see why filtering is so important, as constantly giving false alerts causes you to ignore or not trust your detector.

Can you still return it? If not, sell it.

Once you have your money back, go here: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?threads/30846/ and let us know what your budget is and what you're looking for in a detector.

    Good luck!

Yeah, honestly, your best settings are, unplug, sell, buy another detector.

I've just purchased a 78SE myself, the amount of falses I've received it's rediculous. I'll still run it for awhile and see what sort of results I get where I live.

Obsolete detector now. There is absolutely no filter on K band. It will pick up every BSM within a mile.

I wouldn't call it redundant, after testing yesterday it does a great job picking up Poliscans cameras with a good 200-300m detection is more than enough, Poliscans scatter a lot of light, and can't ping you till you get up nice and close. I'm aware if cops ping you with a laser handheld, your done for but at the moment cops are so reliant on these poliscan units, they rarely even bother to use their laser handhelds anymore. Radar enforcement is phased out and only moving radar is used, but it can only be used on rural roads and not allowed to be used in metropolitan areas.

So I could literally disregard the use of it as a radar detector in metropolitan areas and only turn on radar detection features once I hit rural roads and still be safe.

I'm in Western Australia, the last state left in Australia where radar detectors are legal. By December 2017, laser jammers will be illegal.

    That applies only to
It's obsolete because it doesn't have the ability to filter blind spot monitoring systems and the like
So it just falses and falses and falses and falses to K band while getting near LOS range on difficult frequencies like 35.5 or any RP1 antennas

Yup agreed, it picks up all sorts of radars from door openers to everything. I would of bought a uniden R1/R3 but apparently it doesn't pick up laser too well, which is a problem where I live. When I found Whistler's laser capabilities are close to the V1, I went straight out to purchase it. I couldn't justify spending big money on the V1.

I get hit with laser about twice a month
Most times my detector doesn't alert
    (Redline or R3)
A segged V1 is a much better choice for range filtering and laser detection
Even though that noone should depend on a lidar sensor on a radar detector to save them from laser

Agreed mate, but with new laws kicking in making laser jammers illegal. I'll be looking at $AUD 1200 plus 7 demerit points if I get caught using them. I don't I'll be taking the risk.

Side note, any idea if falcon hr is K or Ka band?

Just for reference, this is a video of the kind of threats we experience in Western Australia.

I ended up returning the device. It gives so many false alerts, you won’t ever think an alert will be real....

Maybe this is mediocre or ok...if you live in a poor rural area. As long as there are no cars with lane sensors and there is an open road, but there are way better detectors out there. You still would have false alerts though just not as many.

I can’t test a rural area but I still think people should stay far away from this and don’t make the same mistake as me by purchasing it.
