I found a local listing for a Bel STI. I don't know much about the model's history. Weren't they sent in to be upgraded to Magnum? How much did that cost? Is it still able to be done? Is $250 for an STI without the upgrade reasonable?

I sold my STI segged for $280 and that was right when Rs were announced but people on craigslist were too dumb to know.

I would think you could find a segged unit for less than $250, considering R1 is $299 new.

Yeah, have an R3. And a Redline, a RedlineEX, a couple Radensos, and a V1. I was wondering if I should add another one to the stable.

    Lol.

I might just offer $100 and see what he thinks. It looks clean.

The STI driver essentially was a firmware handicapped Magnum
Purchasing and then getting the Magnum upgrade freeing the firmware it still has a pre packaged LNA

There would be no reason to purchase other than preferring the manly Bel voice and not satisfied with your Redline performing great and would like a little less range

My Redline had been sent back and checked out, and seems to be fine now. I like using different detectors but you make a very good point: probably too close to my Redline to have a "novel" experience.

Performance wise, it's close to a Redline. Most get it for its looks, case and Bel sounds ( which I prefer)....

I liked the Bel sounds as well. I contacted the seller and offered $100. I'm waiting for a reply.

IMHO yes, it is. My STI Magnum (yes, I know, not the Driver) that I had didn't have band segmentation and the like. (wasn't the latest upgrade and also was needed to be sent in). I sold it for $400 or $450 Canadian. It was 10 years old or so but in perfect condition.

Yes, a lot of forum members here will tell you that it's a great RD (and it is) but then they'll say "offer $100". If the seller holds onto his or her guns, he/she'll sell it for a whole lot more.

I remember when I was selling mine a bunch of people on here told me to get lost for pricing it so high. I sold it within 24 hours (twice) and had 4-5 emails after listing it on Kijiji within an hour or two.

I preferred the magnum (updated STI WB LNA) over a redline due to sounds, as well as display and ability to mount it upside down. The lack of the Redline chin allowed for easier viewing when mounted up high. Got rid of them all and just kept the V1 and NR.
