I decide to go back out to glenview to test out the 1.31 FW with band segmentation. Took only 2 runs and it seems like when segmented the R1 gave a .2-.4 more warning then without segged. Last time I was out there with 1.30 the R1 only alerted at the 30mph speed sign Sorry about the video quality dint have my dash cam so record with my phone Also decide to do 2 runs with lrd950 with DFR7 1.00 FW (not on video)

    R1 1.0 mile
    R2 1.3 miles

    lrd 950

    R1 0.9 mile
    R2 0.8 mile

Thanks for testing! But I'd be careful about making comparisons between runs that aren't contemporaneous. Could be affected by weather, traffic, how much juice the battery of the radar gun has (assuming it's solar powered). Would be a better comparison if you had run a couple of runs on 1.31 in Ka narrow as well at the same time.

If he made these runs on Sunday, there was a lot of moisture in the air, air was heavy with humidity and it had been raining since Sat night. If it's solar powered sign, it may have been weak, but output is typically continuous .

Im going to post this here since i leave in the Chicago area too.
This is one of those road signs saying "left right lane closed ahead"

    K band.
Sorry guys don't have a dashcam. But maybe we can meet up one those weekends and do some test runs together. Screenshot_20171021-193424.

Ok guys, I'm going tomorrow to the Glenview speed sign. I'm going to test the R3 vs the M360. What kind of results should I expect? Thinking R3 by .2 to.4?

Don't test your Uniden against K band speed signs.

It's actually a Ka-band speed sign. And they must make K-band speed signs different where some people on this forum live, as I've never had a problem with using a K-band speed sign for testing, as long as all the runs are done contemporaneously. I've never experienced this phenomena where my detector doesn't alert to a K-band speed sign or only does so intermittently.

Ok guys, just got back from testing. I got to say I'm a little surprised on the results.

R3 settings are Adv, X off, K and KA on, Laser on, KA at 100%, K at 50% TSR off. Seg 2/5/8

360 settings are Highway, TSR off, x off, K and KA on, Laser on

I did 3 runs each. Also did a few extra 360 runs.

    R3 results;
    1) 1.2 miles
    2) 1.2
    3) 1.1

    360;
    1) 1.1
    2) 1.2
    3) 1.1

Next I decided to test the 360 on auto and yes, escort must of done something to sensitivity, even KA band

Same settings but just in Auto mode

    1) .6
    2) .5

So, I'm seeing the distance about the same on both units if running highway on the 360.

Weather was partly sunny until it got overcast, no rain. Very light traffic and made sure to try to be by myself on the road.

Might be as I am not the only one who has experienced this. When the LRD950 first came out it would not alert to a K band speed sign at Jacksonville Airport. My Bel and Escorts alerted over a mile away but the Uniden was dead quiet. Also have a sign here locally that my Uniden's alert intermittently to and at short distances. I plugged my X50 Black in the other day just to see what happened and it alerted about 1/4 mile further than my LRD950 and R3. I have had many similar K band sign experiences with my LRD950 over the years. I assume the radar is modulated in these cases but definitely not uncommon...at least around here.

Interesting. I know you are not the only person that has run into this. And I trust what you say. I've just never had that experience.

I know I've said this before, but some speed signs use FMCW modulated radar because they are used to do traffic studies (eg count number of vehicles and average speed). I think it is these speed signs that cause the most headaches with testing, as many K band filtering algorithms try to filter out FMCW radar since it isn't used by police in the US (but is used by many BSM systems).

There are also plenty of K band speed signs that use the same K band antenna a LEO would use with an old Kustom or Decatur system. I think you would have much more reproducible results with these sorts of signs.

When I first bought my LRD950 I freaked out over the airport apeed sign and posted it here. Several members brought up the possibility that the radar may have been modulated. My detector has always done extremely well with detecting legitimate K band just not all K band signs. I have just came to assume that those "wonky" signs were modulated and being filtered out. Maybe I am wrong and something else is going on. In any case, I am happy with my Unidens :)

They must be too cheap here in Texas to use the FMCW modulated speed signs.

Just to add my personal experience from my local K-band signs...
Locally, the permanently mounted signs that are on a pole and located in an area of heavy traffic-volume are often FMCW. The portable K-band trailers that are positioned in residential areas just to remind people to slow down are usually non-modulated CW, which is the type that LEOs use.
The Ka-band signs I use are all CW...I've never seen a FMCW Ka-band sign.
