The Laser Interceptor 7/10 times gives advanced warning on the Poliscan speed cameras they use here in Australia and with a law change in meaning a Laser Interceptor Install would mean huge fine and loss of driving license in 8 weeks time, I would like to dismantle my LI heads to make a small receiver only as laser detection (laser detection is allowed and complies with the law change)

Anyone taken apart a sensor head ? are they just a IR transmitter and receiver or is there electronics as well? Do you know if I remove the black lenses will the receiving sensor still detect? I assume if the transmitter laser diode is removed, the LI will alert on bad sensor but this can be disabled in the software, would the laser detection still work?

Know this is quite a drastic measure but otherwise it will an expensive paperweight soon.

Would appreciated any knowledge or photos.

I don't think the police are going to make a distinction between part of a laser jammer and a full laser jammer system, to be honest. You're better off buying ALPs and learning how to use them sneakily. (is that really a word? spell check says it is)

Thank guys. Great pictures Chakeubeam. Looks like the sensors have lots of resin and a circuit board (but this could be to mount the transmitter/receiver on only). Have you seen any photos with all the resin removed?

Unfortunately the new rule is the car cant be driven on a road with a jammer installed (even if it has been set to detection only). The officer would not batter an eyelid to give you a ticket and court attendance that would loose your license. It would be up to you to fight it in court and would be difficult to prove it was a detector only mode and not possible to jam otherwise this would be a loophole for anyone to use. The court costs and time is not what most people want to go through. The media have already published on TV/newspapers what the heads look like and where usually installed. They have booze bus stops here where the police close the road and temporary stop every car to brethalise. Get stopped typically 3 times a year so plenty of opportunity for a cop to see a head no matter how discrete it is. The good news is detectors are still allowed in this state and sometime give a adequate warning with the Poliscan front facing setups if you are not excessively speeding.

I would like to get the IR receiver and associated electronics out. This is the super small (sub 8mm) and the unit is certainly a detector only - impossible in any form to be a jammer and will not look anything like a jammer. V1 is the other options but then it detects false alerts from car laser cruise control where as the LI decodes the signal so I hadn't had a false so far. Also its smart confirming the Poliscan speed camera.

It is all revenue here and the government speeding ads all the time to brain wash people, some of them are ridiculous - go a few kph over the speed limit and you are better off than dead!! People have been fined $200 for going 63kph in a 60kph limit, no wonder there are so many road deaths, on the country roads people take ages overtaking in case there is a hidden camera with such a small tolerance and weeks later a big fine in the post for walking speed over the limit...

TBH why not just run the LIs in detection mode only? Theonly way someone would know in the first place is if you use them to jam.

Are radar detectors allowed where you live? If so id just grab a V1 and call it a day!
Sorry to bring back an old post. Does anyone have these pictures. I want to take apart a 8.8 head and a 9.0 head, looking for direction. Best Regards, Allen

What you need is to hide the sensor behind irt/perspex.
Since it is only to detect , the placement is not critical.
I live in a banned area and i escaped the scrutiny of a 10 minutes stop .
Hide every wire the best you can , deface the cpu enclosure.

Dremmel with diamond wheel .
Nope... HAMMER and flat head. Probably not advisable, but neither is opening the head now.

Appreciate the replies. On my quad, I have two 9.0 in the front and found some 8.8 I was going to place in the rear, but the connectors were cut off. I haven't read with a definite answer if I could use 8.8 in the rear and my 9.0 up front, also have not read I can not.

From what I can gather, opening these units kills them. Any idea what version was opened in this picture? Thanks again, Allen

You can use both sets of heads on (8.8-9.0) the cpu. But before you crack open those heads send me a pic of how close the wires are cut.

here is what you can get with a dremmel , silicone to reseal the front cover ...

The biggest gain is in thicknest ...fits in crevices ...

I achieved that with a grinder for the last mms , you stop when you reach
any metal .

If you fear they recognise the buble , you can grind it , wont affect much the reception.

The Cables are long, just need RJ12 I assume, although don't know what side is what. I wish I could of found 2 more v9.0, just no luck. My 9.0 are installed, not sure the difference in wiring, if any. Both use 6 wires. Have read 9,0 are better, but these are for the rear.

I guess I could post a WTB two v9.0 if I can get connectors on these. Do Appreciate the reply! I like this group!

Can someone post a picture of the connector side of the 8.8? Really just need to see the direction the colors go. In another post I have learned I can use 8.8 in the rear with 9.0 in the front.

Anyone know what the pin out at the head of the cable is? Mine were spliced, flat CAT5 cable, I can recrimp the ends if I know the pinout I tried to call cliff @ LI but he could not help me.
