hi guys.....long time lurker......I've got two Redlines and one of the them crapped out last month. Rather than send back to Escort for repair, or pick up the new Redline EX, I've been reading all the details about the R3 and okay you guys have me sold. I've got two quick issues:

    1. We only have Mac's in the house.....anyone aware if Uniden will be including Mac support for firmware updates fairly soon, or maybe not at all??
    2. I've got my Redline hardwired, will the same RJ11 plug work on the R3, so I don't need to rewire? I assume yes, but just a dumb question.

    thanks ahead....

Hey there! Welcome to RDF :)

So for your first question, Mac is not compatible. However, you can install windows on a Mac and update it that way. I use parallels on my Mac. Yes, your Redline hardware (RJ11) will work on the Uniden R3 so no need to worry about rewiring.

    Hiya Surf!

Another Machead here. I keep a fairly modern Windows laptop running JUST for the purposes of the occasional gadget whose updates are "Windows only". The Uniden is one of them.

    But worth it!

okay thanks guys.....sounds like Uniden is fairly responsive, any of the experts heard if they'll add Mac support in the future? Honestly not really interested to imitate windows on my Mac.....suppose I could borrow a windows machine from one of my kids when they visit, for updates.

by the way, 1.31 version looks very sweet.....I'll probably wait for it to come with that pre-loaded at Uniden.

Just go ahead and order from BRD now and you will have one with probably 1.31 on it as he gets his next shipment fairly soon!

...or just get an inexpensive windows machine and any 'ol monitor.

I mean, even an old laptop or desktop will work. The system requirements are ridiculously low for firmware updates.

I'm like you. Emulating Windows on my Mac just isn't my thing... even though it's certainly a solution!

    Isn't that the best feeling?

When a new update for (insert gadget here) comes out and I read "Update requires Windows" I just boot up my "old" laptop and laugh at my own ingenuity.

Well OK maybe not ingenious, but there is NOTHING installed on this Windows machine except programs related to updating firmware!

    Those pesky work computers!

Can't hurt to TRY... you'll know in a hurry if it's locked down against that.

I bet it has the drivers already. My windows 10 computer did, and I never even let it install automatic updates since the day I installed it. Try it, unless it's totally locked down like a school computer, you have a fair chance.

So BRD is $30 cheaper.....if I have a problem, do I still go directly back to Uniden with it?

    @Surf NH

    This right off BRD's site.

You can return your item within 30 days from your date of purchase. You need to contact customer service at 1-888-229-7594 option 2 to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. You can also request an RMA number through the MY Account link at the top of this page. No returns will be accepted without a proper RMA number.

After 30 days you would be dealing with Uniden and the warranty they provide!!

Tom is great sponsor on this forum for uniden and ALP jammers! He is top notch C/S and always the best prices!!

Public Libraries computers usually only have Game Boy security, you could try it there if the work computer doesn't allow you to do it.
