I would not think it possible if I had not experienced it myself. The stars must have aligned just right and atmospheric conditions perfect as I received a 7.8 mile alert (Ka 34.7) the other day.

To begin with, I thought that the LEO must be ahead of my and I was following him. But, when I finally got to him and saw that he was in a very common spot, I don't think that he would have had enough time to have gotten into position. At least I don't think so, as in 25 years I have never seen a LEO pull into that spot from the same direction as I was traveling, they always come from the opposite direction and that would have taken him a long time to get down to the next exit and turn around and come back.

It is flat with little to no obstructions all the way to the first alert. From the position of the LEO, it looked like he was pretty much pointed in a direct path to that first alert.

I'll let you all take a look and decide.

Sorry, the video is somewhat boring as the R3 picks up an alert and drops it several times until it finally gets close enough to the source to stay latched onto it.

Let me know what you think.

Geez, I would not want to be alerted that far out ... if you have a 50 mile trip and 2-3 of those types of detection then more than half your trip you need to be lugging along waiting until you see something. It was C/O detection ... just give me 1/2 mile on those and I would be happy

Yeah I just got a stupid long 34.7 alert this morning. Multiple miles here in the hill country and around curves.
It is hard for me to get used to this as after awhile of alerting......you say to yourself this is a false....then it starts to ramp up....and ramp up some more.....then you see him......it is just really difficult to get use to having this kind of range. I ran RedlineO and V1/Yav1 for a long time but this thing is just silly with 34.7 range.

I wish I had the problem of long detections.. You can turn down the sensitivity. Me, my detections are short on my R3.

Last night, I was driving on a straight road with a couple of hills in this section.. No big hills because if you were in a pickup, you could possible see over them, when in the bottom. I was running 10 to 20 cars of distance with the car in front of me. My R3 went off; ramped up super quick, then ramped down. Never saw the LEO and this all happened in less than a 1/2 miles.

Being that it was one lane in each direction, I know he wasn't moving.. If anything, I have a feeling he was sitting in the church parking lot running radar. I've seen them sit there during the day running radar.

You can turn that crazy alert range down, if you need to, in Advanced mode.

Myself? I want that thing to let me know if there's a LEO monitoring traffic two States away from me. It just helps me know it's possible and available and that if there is an I/O, I'm going to be able to snag it and have time to adjust my halo... ;)

This is why I would like a longer set of ramp up lights then what is currently on my R1.

That kind of thing happens all the time. With lesser detectors you wouldn’t have even gotten that alert. He was almost certainly on a side road or elsewhere, and that was an “off axis” alert. He was there, but not a threat to you. The “never saw the LEO” part is what’s important.

Dude you need to send your R3 back to UNIDEN and get it checked out--you have never been satisfied since you had it!! It will give you good piece of mind!

actually, I'm surprised to see C/O out west. They love I/O there. @OpenRoad I remember that UHP 33.8 C/O, but besides that isn't it mostly I/O?

@Mike G you'll be happy you have this range when it's I/O. WHAT IF, theres only two cars on the road(late night), and you're way back and the guy way ahead gets I/O'd. You may be the next one with NO WARNING at all. This range is INCREDIBLE! I think this may be the longest detection thus far of the new R's. Even with some curves! @Jag42 @Brainstorm69 @hiddencam

Nevada Highway Patrol run 33.8 and are probably 90% I/O. Utah (34.7) out in the deserts are also mostly I/O

    --- Post updated ---

I often got 10+ miles on Redline in open terrain, so I would expect R1/R3 to reach out in that realm as well. I routinely got 6 miles in flat terrain in the desert with Redline. (The 10+ mile encounters were descending into a huge valley, with line-of-sight to shooter in the distance below)

Yeah I want to send it back for testing, but I know they'll just send me a refurb.. Plus when I see people here reply back saying it was an off axis hit, it makes me think maybe my detector is working better than I think.. But then again, I keep running into C/O with short to me range (1/2 mile at best from the alert to visually passing, but LEOs going the opposite direction), which makes me think I've got a dud. It's extremely frustrating.. especially since now I don't want to be without a detector because I see so many LEOs running radar.

I really need to sit down and figure out what software I need to put these dashcam videos together for you guys to see.. I picked up the Vantrue N2 Pro.. have it installed but have no idea what software to use on a Windows 10 machine. Any suggestions?

Send it to TXCTG @Jag42 @Brainstorm69 in a controlled test(that they make), the results should be nearly the exact same. I wouldn't call it dead until they get to try it. They or anyone else who tests it properly.

I asked one of them.. can't remember which one, but they said they couldn't get to it for weeks.. I'm guessing that 1.31 will be out b4 they he could even look at it, so I'm going to try that firmware to see what it might do. This morning, I switched it to Ka Narrow after seeing that one thread... I'll see if that does anything.

I can't speak for them, and I know their plate is full. Over full. But I figured I would try. Sorry to hear that. Keep running it, monitor the settings, log the encounters, and keep updating us.

If you're using Windows, can you tell me what software you're using to edit your dashcam videos?

I am. Windows 10 I use YouTube. I am cheap and can't afford a professional software editor.

Youtube allows you to merge those cam segments together and edit in general? I didn't know.. Last time I uploaded anything there was like 3 or 4 years ago.

Who cares if its a refurb, you are out of the 30 day window and I think refurbs get a Great look-over and hooked up to the machine to get a 2nd look over to make sure they are performing top notch before its sent back out again!! it will be good as new and you will not be able to tell the difference---you really think they will send you up a scratched up dented R3--I highly doubt it!!

Early in the game for me, but my R3 is putting up mile+ detections almost every day. In my area, they were pretty infrequent with my Magnum or LRD.

That's what you would think, but based on posts here, someone got a dud back and others are getting ones back all scratched... Although my detections are short, it still works. It's just keeping me on my toes for now.
