So came across a speed camera van, these are normally K Band. I am not sure if the Ka alert overwhelmed the K band alert or perhaps the van was getting ready to move out and not operating, as I don't really remember the detector showing a K alert, but I had it on dim, so cannot be sure. Anyway from the videos, looks like the police car was the source. Will do a drive by later to see if I get the same alert.

I know the information for NZ says Ka 35.5 exists, but this is my first encounter of 35.5 in the south island in over 10+ years. Band segmentation users be aware if you are filtering this out.

thats worrying as i thought i had a 35.5 alert at least 4 months ago but just dismissed it. it looks like they do exist. i prsume the ka priority is what kicked in and failed to beep on k camera. shame you didn't get to check the distance for the van as i am yet to see one here but can confirm great range on the pole cameras i tested against in auckland.

thanks great video.

R3 was quite impressive actually, about a 1.5 -2 KM detection.

Sure that wasn't ghosting? Otherwise that's a worry.

That was my initial concern as well, but after several runs through that area I don't think so, plus running the latest firmware where that issue was supposed to be resolved.
I made a pass by that area later as well, and the cop car was gone, and did not get any alerts. Also made a pass in the evening and got no alerts, so could possibly be an indication of 35.5 in use. Unfortunately I don't do a lot of driving around in my personal car so hardly get to use the R3.

It's ashame you can't go back in time and pull over behind the police car and go check if it had a radar unit powered on and seen what radar unit it was...

Hi guys, the answer to the 35.5 Ka band alerts is in the video. In Taupo I receive the same 35.5 Ka false and the source is the local Taupo BUS. Every time I receive the alert the same BUS appears. Not sure why a bus is running Ka radar but this is 100% the source of the alert, Cheers.

That's very interesting to know, wonder why the bus is spewing 35.5 all over the show

Silly question, was it one car or two. I can't see the plate to be sure. Was there a cop in one/both cars?
According to NZ Police they do not run 35.5, only up to 35.1. Which I think is a catch all to cover out of tune 34.7 Stalkers. Come to think of it, I have never seen a reference to 35.5 Stalkers on RDF. I know our cops lie like politicians, but it seems too stupid even for them, to lie on an OIA request.
Could this be ghosting or incorrect freq display? I've had several 35.4xx and 5xx falses, never a cop in sight. Which led me to believe it was Whistler falsing.

Whistler in a speedy bus?

That's what I was thinking too.. it's awfully strong for it to be a false from a whistler/another RD.. definitely seems like a high powered unit that is blasting that signal.

A very out of tune stalker. That is what it probably is. I am certain the radar source was the cop car. Yes same car just left parked there.

I even tried examining the bus, but couldn't determine if it was the same one both times, an hour apart. Plus, it's a school bus???

I'm still leaning towards the cop car... i ain't say'in i'm say'in, i'm just say'in you know what i'm say'in

35.1,35.2 is Decatur radar frequency. 35.483 is definitely not Stalker. Long long time ago there were 35.2 Ka stalker ATR’s in the USA but there are very few left.

100% from the bus. Follow it next time, definitely not Police radar.

That's just lame man. I also doubt it's Stalker at 35.483. But that doesn't mean it's coming from the bus. The type of radio device that generates the kind of power, to send a 35.5 ghz wave 800 meters up the road... is not mounted on any school bus man.

I've had 34.5xx from two Chorus trucks, and a very strong 34.xxx from a old yellow Mazda 6. Strong enough to mistake for a cop.

PS. Is the bus a Jap import. Could that be some sort of traffic warning transmitter like the K band units mounted on farm vehicles? They would send a K alert for a km.

PPS. I've just twigged. The Chorus vans parked near your cop car. Possibly them?
