Yesterday I got 70 metres warning approaching a Redflex van same lane ahead, going back after dropping my wife at work I got 220 metres from the other direction. Eg, camera radar facing away from me. This was beam detection only for the first alert, and reflected off parked cars for the second.
Not impressed by the first alert, I wonder why the diff?

That is worrying and interesting at the same time. R3 or Redline?

    Nooo, THE detector, V1.;)

Redflex isn't sensitivity adjustable, is it?

Ahhh V1, yes 70m makes sense with the V1. My redflex detections, redline international is normally around 100-150m, V1 always under 100m.

Hopefully your Junk K was off and Euro mode on. Probably not sensitivity but definitely frequency and angle it is pointed at the road.

Last time I went past a Redflex van (on my side of the road) a few weeks ago the V1 alerted nearly as I was going past it, maybe 20m if that and 3 bars signal strength. I got a longer detection from the rear antenna after going past it, probably also a good 200m, must have been reflecting off traffic behind me - I'd seen it so had already slowed down. Would have liked to have done a couple more passes just to play but was short on time. I wonder if there has been a change in approach to how they're used, and perhaps the operator can turn the radar off until traffic is close.

I've always got 150 to 230 metres range, even with TMF2 on. In fact, I couldn't detect a difference in range between TMF2 on or off.
    This 70 metres is abnormal.
I wonder if he had just turned the unit on at that point?

Possibly. Another Idea I have had from reading your post and a few others is to mount the V1 facing backwards. Sounds dumb but could the rear antenna be better in some cases? Could be worth a try if you come across a van and have the time and patience ;)

I don't know. But if they're using it like I/O, they're going to be bloody busy in school zones and a 5 over tolerance.
Any one know the Redflex detection range? It must be very close given the angle and power of the beam?

It does seem to have more range from the rear on K, but I don't want to lose Ka range or off axis detection.

Yup, not permanently, but would be good to test out.

Another strange one today. Got a Ka C/O alert 50 metres or so before a tightish right hander, the cop came into view about a second or two after the first beep. But as I passed him I got a much stronger rear alert that continued well after he was around the bend and out of sight.
I wonder if he had the Stalker operating rear antenna only and ground pulse? Different V1 this time, this was on the bike.
It's enough to make you a bit paranoid.

Yeah, strange encounters always make me paranoid as well and I double check if my settings are all ok. The encounter you describe above sure does sound like rear antenna.

since getting my r3 i have noticed that it seems to have way better detection on rear antenna than my redline. r3 mounted in exactly same place as redline used to be.

i wonder if the po-po are using more of rear antenna or both at same time?

Thinking about it later. The cop was in a hurry, no lights but pushing it through the corner. He might have been doing stationary speed checks up the road using rear antenna and got called to a job.

Which one, OH that V1???? You're starting to sound like the guys who got I/Owned here. I'd never run a V1 in your neck of the world. ONLY a Pro A Redline would do you justice (or a Redline EX). Eventually you're going to get owned with the ultra-low powered K. This has been an issue with V1 in EU for years. I even have the vertical mount for V1 and it don't help much against Redflex. Not only is a function of hardware, BUT its also a function of the firmware, which Mike does NOT have for those units like Redflex, MRCD/T, Gatso, Strelka. V1 does very poorly in EU with these units.

Jeez, you always pop up with anti V1 stuff.
I've used V1's for 20 plus years in all parts of NZ, which I doubt you've ever been to, the only times I've been "owned" were in work cars without detectors, and twice when I wasn't paying attention and got pinged by I/O on empty roads. Even your precious Unidens won't save you there. I should add that a friend got pinged with I/O using his Redline. Amazing huh?
As for Redflex, I get, on average 150 to 220 metres warning, that works for me. So, I'm not about to change detector religions yet. Better declare a Fatwah on me.
