I use the visor clip for my Magnum- I love it. The visor clip and a hardwire make for a very clean setup. I like to avoid sticking stuff to my windshield if I can avoid it.

Couple possible downsides- you won't be able to use the visor that you have it mounted to for blocking the sun, and rear laser detection will be blocked by the visor itself. Those aren't a big deal for me, but worth making a note of.

When I had my 9500ix I used the visor clip instead of the suction cups. I had to put the remote for my garage door opener upside down so that the visor was level. Without doing this in my car the 9500ix pointed up. Really liked using it. There is another thread somewhere that discusses having the RD on the windshield with the suction cups and how it gives it better detection on the windshield, but I never noticed the difference when using my ix. I also used to do this w/ the v1, but now I have it concealed behind the dots where the rear view mirror is using the suction cups. Which reminds me, I should update a different thread on here :) .

I have had many customers who use the visor clip with the 9500ix complain that the GPS signal would get lost too frequently and mounting on the windshield was always better for the GPS signal. You did not specify which detector you have? Also as others have said it also depends on your visor position, You dont want the detector pointing in the sky or at the floor.

Instead of using my visor, i was going to use my headliner to keep the redline relatively close to the windshield. I recall seeing that tedt too jmich. I wish it had more than one slot.

I tried today and the clip moves too much. Im going to be modifying it so the redline doesnt move too much.

That would make sense considering how GPS works.

Note that the STi Driver and Magnum have an inverted display option if you want to mount the detector upside down on top of the visor ;)

I bent the clip a little bit so that the clip would work on the headliner. I combined that with a hard-wire on my RX-65. The reason that I did that over a suction cup mount was because of the heat here in FL. Since it was away from the windshield it wouldn't get as hot. Now I just use the suction cup on my V1 and take it down when I park in the sun.

I did before I glued a mount to the windshield. It worked fine. I just had to put something between the visor and the top of the car to hold the visor level because the visor kept popping up too far.

I put the mount in because I wanted to pull the visor down at times.

In my vehicle the visor clip doesn't have much room and keeps the RD near the metallic strip, and also blocks the rear sensor (Magnum). That plus not being able to use the visor had me go with a blendmount.

When i ordered the 9500 IX the Escort salesrep told me it would not make a difference. It takes about 15 minutes to find the GPS signal. I have tried the window mount and it acquires the signal in a shorter time. This delayed GPS is annoying as the first ten minutes to and from work I am driving through a town where I wish the GPS was working for auto learn to block all the false signals out.

The GF or the clip/detector? :p
lol

i tried the escort visor clip, and not really a huge fan. At least where I put the clip, it doesn't sit snug. It vibrates along the headliner.

and no, it shouldn't make any difference getting satellite lock. I've wired/mounted 9500ix's at the very top of windshields where the detector is mainly under the metal roof, and they've never had trouble.
