Was coming back from golf last month and was supposedly tagged doing 114 on the range roads (where speed limit is 80). I find it hard to believe, as you can see in the video, I crest the hill and he barely has visual on me before passing by. No k-band detected until he pulls a 3-point turn and tags me from the rear (which at that point I am slowing to a stop).

On the ticket he wrote 90 in an 80 zone and put 114 in brackets below the blank - charge is only 105 bucks. But i somewhat call bullshit on his claim that he actually recorded my speed and rather think he simply estimated. I forgot to ask to see the gun at the stop :(

What do you all think? I feel like taking it to court, but at that point its my word against his, right?

PS. LRD950 running DFR firmware and K-filter on.

Just ask for disclosure. You're not convicted of anything yet. A cop is not judge and jury. Fight the ticket.

No rabbits or other traffic in front of you. Traveling at that speed. Your brave. It could have been a missed I/O by your detector. Either way. For $105. Idk. I'd pay it. It's much much more locally for that ticket.

I would fight it. It's not the fine amount that's the issue. Rather it's the points, those can cost you way more.

I just find it hard to believe that he had enough time to i/o me, considering we just crested a hill and only had a second or two before passing each other - not enough time to react. The road I was traveling on is completely straight, and didnt pick up any shots during the 10 minutes I was on it.

The 105 bucks isnt what I'm too worried about, I just feel like he bullshitted me - at the stop, he never said how fast I was going just "too fast" - then the ticket came out and was being "nice", only writing me for 10 over, hoping I would just pay it?

Even with his radar in hold
He had no time to I/O You
And being on top of you
A blip one bar minimum would of showed up

He's lying
He visually estimated you
Then just lied on the ticket
It's your word against his

What should of happened is he should of been running C/O and clocked a speeder

Or turned around and still caught you speeding

Neither happened he knew you were speeding and because of that it's okay to lie in his mind because not all but most cops are no good

I'm sorry Mr policeman you lost so you're going to lie about instead of doing the legal thing

Like letting someone go when they catch you slipping

God I hate lying cops

Tell the truth once in awhile

Disgusting
Take that badge off and go sell used cars to support your family (will fit right in)

Because he shouldn't be a police officer lying to the public
His superiors and what will be open court

Getting stopped for speeding starts at 2 demerits (for 15kmph or less).

8 for graduated drivers and 15 for fully licenced within a 2 year period.

Demerits stay on your licence for 2 years (from conviction date). If you come back from suspension you start at 7 demerits.

I think you can only remove 3 demerits at traffic school once in a 2 year period (before suspension).

They can also suspend your licence if you do something especially stupid.

Oh btw for anyone wondering, by law the police never have to show the reading.

X2. He's full of crap. There was no I/O shot there. Unfortunately IMHO if you fight it you're gonna lose. Without the tape, it's your word against his. With the tape, even though you didn't admit guilt you did imply it, and the judge is likely going to find you guilty. This sucks but I'd pay the ticket.

Bet he doesnt show up and its dropped.
I have to agree, he's got a point. Cops are lazy. It is a possibility. But.....if he does show up, I stand by my opinion. Keep us posted.

Yep he lied. With all the small talk I would of expected hey just slow it down. Take the video to court. When I was a cop I was taught to estimate speed at a stop then use the radar for confirmation. He could not have estimated your speed moving toward you with a 2 second or less visual. He's a dick. Oh maybe it was the music you were listening to lol yuk. He didn't even have the radar on or else you would have picked it up. He turned it on after he passed you. I would ask him in court how are you trained to estimate speed? How can you guess I was doing that speed you wrote on the ticket?

Love the conversation guys, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he's full of BS. I mean nice cop and everything, but I'm positive he didn't have a chance to properly get a track on me.

So I've gone ahead and mailed in a not guilty plea and await a trial date. Once that's set, I'll request disclosure to see what he has for notes on the stop.

I've never had to request disclosure, but am I gonna just get back his notes and the equipment used to nab me? And are the notes most likely gonna be falsified to say he was running radar while driving and simply clocked me?

If so, at the trial I assume I want him to explain how he managed to get the reading, given the video that I have? Also, how do I submit evidence, or should I simply just bring the video to the trial date? (just plan to crop the video sometime after we passed and not include the conversation inside he vehicle)

Any help is greatly appreciated! (and realize that laws elsewhere may slightly differ).

I'd say it's pretty obvious you slowed way down before he hit you with radar. What I wonder is if it can be argued it's not his fault your radar detector didn't go off. Good luck

No way he got your speed with I/O. There is a hill there, and you were traveling in opposite directions (with k filter on), perhaps your detector filtered out the hit if it was a low powered gun. I've not used the detector you have so I'm speculating the only possibility aside from either visual estimate or a lie.

I'd also be hesitant to introduce the video without at minimum removing the audio (discussing, confirming, and almost being surprised you had nothing illegal or weed on you isn't likely to help) and altering the frame rate/slow down the video a bit :D

Report back with what happens! Good luck!

Also, can you negotiate tickets down in your area to non-moving point free violations? Perhaps you could go that route too?
