Weirdness, you're not kidding. Either it's the meds, or the banner is moving.
Rofl, I just imported this addon which has 60 new style change options to it and said screw it, enable them all, let's see how terrible this becomes... lol. Unfortunately a good amount of them don't work with our theme.
The banner is now spinning around. Groovy, man.
Personally I find this hilarious and enjoyable. I am so happy my "home on the web" (this forum) has such a dedicated hard working caretaker.
Remember the Brit classic "Fawlty Towers"? In the beginning credits, the hotel sign was always slightly different. The fun was seeing what had changed. The little changes here and there kind of remind me of that.
Everything's changing, man. Right before my eyes. It's far out.
Wait, my cat wants to say a few words.
Lol, took me like 1.5 hours just to get some shadows on the box elements. And with that, SLEEP TIME! Will resume work in the morning, left off at doing work on the list of forums/categories, and modifying the way posts appear in threads.
And just as you drift off to sleep, the last thing you'll see is that picture above with the psychedelic cat.
Sweet dreams, xydrine!
Performing an upgrade to LITESPEED shortly.
No, no, no, LITESPEED is too slow! We're gonna have to go right to… LUDICROUSSPEED.
Lol it better fix this damn problem causing quic not to be enabled. Was one of the whole points switching over from nginx was.
Posted from my Galaxy S8 using an app we should really get rid of sooner than later...

Now's a good enough time than ever to do a full disk image backup of RDF's main server container.
Let's see, server is 58GB in size... I estimate it'll take... 2.5 minutes to backup. Let's find out. BRB!
In case anyone is interested in what specifically I'm working on right now...
I've been piecing together a few things from our older theme and making things a bit cleaner. Also taking a few elements from a couple other XenForo themes we own and building them into ours.
I'm doing this in an alternate style so a lot of the changes aren't yet applied, but I'm going to be doing incremental pushes of the changes to the live theme once I've hit a milestone.
Example of some of the cleanliness/old theme merges I am talking about:
I have a huge face-lift incoming which will be substantial. The "RDF feeling" will be here shortly .
Coding at night is the best. Nice and peaceful, well, besides Irma with her 45mph gusts but that's okay.
I'll be publishing all the changes I've made up to this point to the site probably late tonight/tomorrow, and everyone can provide input on what they like, what they don't, and I'll continue modding from there. Lots of good changes coming - I should have done it this way from the beginning - learning the XF backend code was a whole new thing after doing the dance with vB for 5 years, so I guess I shouldn't feel too bad.
I think I've taken elements from probably 4 or so different themes at this point (which will be live once I publish the changes). It's a dramatic difference from what's on the site now, it's a tad different than our vB theme, but the changes are extremely fluid, clean, reading threads isn't a "job" anymore... you guys will see what I mean when I make them live.
Sorry for the delay in this, have had a nasty stomach bug the past few days, not fun at all. With all the times I've been sick the past month or so I feel like my body is dying, so.... WTB new body.
Anyway, I mentioned it elsewhere and I'll mention it again - I really hoped to have a substantial amount more done with the new platform but again, the last month or so has thrown some curve balls my way. Thus is life.
Seems like the worst is over for now (illness speaking) so let's hope it stays that way for a while.
So here's an overall update on where we're at today.
The main thing to know now is I'm much more fluent with the way XenForo operates behind the scenes and there are definitely significant differences between the way XF and vB operate back there - and those things have taken me a bit longer to dissect, but I'm pretty up-to-date on everything now. The permissions system was the largest undertaking to date - not only because RDF's permissions system is extremely advanced behind the scenes, but because the way XenForo handles permissions is dramatically different than the way vBulletin does. The permissions system, for the most part, is completely ported over now (thank God).
I've primarily been working on stylizing the forum for the past couple of weeks. Again, another item with pretty large differences between vBulletin, but I've put together a pretty good system as far as implementing changes and everything goes, and I can say for sure XF is much more customizeable than vB is - in spades. This is honestly partly why it's taken me so long to get to this point in stylizing, actually - you can customize almost every single aspect of the theme directly in XenForo's main admin interface, unlike vB where a bunch of file edits had to take place to do the kind of things we wanted to do.
Today... I was originally going to deploy the hybrid theme I've been working on (a tad different than the one you see now) for the past week or so but I spoke with CJR about this earlier and we decided to push the current theme you see on the site now, to be critiqued by you guys, mainly to know what you think of the "boxed" style layout.
By boxed style layout I mean a design that doesn't completely take up 100% of the browser width (mainly applicable to desktops only - not mobile devices).
What we are thinking about is using a boxed-style layout, moving the main content (thread lists, posts, etc) to the left of the screen, and implementing a permanent sidebar on the right (kind of like the forum's current side bar, but more customized) with various items (such as hottest posts on the forum this very moment, etc).
Anyway, again, the theme I just pushed (and the one you are using now) is not fully customized with the main changes I've been working on the past week or so, and we are really only planning on leaving it up for about a day or so.
Any opinions on the new general layout you guys can provide would be helpful. Please note that font types, some colors, certain functions, etc etc etc will be changing (and already have been changed, they just aren't live yet) once we move forward after this small little beta test is over.
Either way, this theme I have up now has a lot of benefits over the last one so I'm sure a bunch of changes here will be welcomed by many.
So I'll admit that I haven't been super active of late, so I haven't seen the changes happen over time, but this looks a whole lot more readable than last time I was here. I really like it. Perhaps this is from old habits of vB, but I keep finding myself looking to the top of posts for the timestamp. Any chance that can go back up to the top?
Yes I'll be moving a few things around when it comes to posts/threads, to be more familiar with the way vBulletin was - i.e. Likes will be Thanks, the post #id will be at the top, top bar will have the forum section you're in along with the RDF access level, etc.
I'm really liking the preliminary lay out of the "Box Style". Nicely defined boarders and we can use the boxes to the right when viewing "forums" for relevant and important info.
If my laptop had a better screen it would be even better.
Yeah the boxed style theme isn't even customized with what I've been working on the past week either. The changes I have on the hybrid theme I've been working on can be easily inserted into this one, and "fix" all sorts of things like spacing, margins, padding, divs being flush, etc etc etc.
I really do like the current preliminary layout as well...
No, THANK YOU!
