Interesting info, thanks for crunching the numbers for us!
I didn't realize how low the percentage is for city mode, I am experimenting in advance at 70-80% and although I still get some stationary falses it's pretty darn quiet around town. I'll try 60-50% next.
City mode SEVERELY cuts down on K band range. I had a situation a few days ago, CO K band, where the R3 alerted with barely enough time for a save. I'm currently experimenting with differing percentages in Advanced Mode. As with all situations, it is my opinion that K band came from Satan's anus.

I think it really depends on what tactics the officer uses. I like the quietness of City but only use that mode when I know the chances of coming across a well-executed use of K-band is small.

Nice work, thanks. The Uniden engineers are nice and obsessed about details just the way a good engineer should be (just like me).

Has anyone gotten their K sensitivity optimized say at 60% or whatever maintains saves at pre heart attack levels with minimum falsing and had the opportunity to compare that to a Radenso XP for BSM filtering and range? The R3 is obviously a beast and a great piece of work but I'm trying to gauge how they did on BSM filtering compared to what appears to be the gold standard.

Thank you so much to everyone! This thread has been an eye opener and so educational!
Without the previous option of having other than City mode on RD's, this changed everything (Advanced Mode on R3). Thanks to the beta testers that showed where City mode on the R3 actually is in relation to Highway mode is a bit unsettling @17% ish. In my only experience so far with the R3, that I had just yesterday, I could see a "Your Speed Is" sign only a few city blocks ahead BEFORE I got the 24.155 alert!
It appears from this thread that a good start is to try Advanced mode with K band at 60% and see. Most of my driving is highway and even @100% K band, the R3 is awesome at the lack of BSM alerts!!!.

Mar. 30 UPDATE; Finally found that 50% on Advanced Mode K band sensitivity is perfect for me. Also, I am using all 3 modes. City does a great job in the urban, Lots of open road driving and use Highway for that. Advance Mode whenever and in-between.

This is a fantastic thread, thanks so much.

I'm a brand new R3 user (and haven't used a detector since college), and just used it for the first time on a trip from Nashville to Chattanooga and back. The only alerts I received were due to K band BSMs. Can I assume that the best way to 'tune these out' is to simply experiment with lower sensitivity settings on K band? I tried lowering to 60% on the way home to see if it made a difference but that was just an arbitrary setting on my part... Thanks in advance for any advice-

I have given up. I can't take it anymore with all the BSM false crap. City mode plus TSF on. Basically turned off K band. I wish Uniden would improve the filtering.

It would be incredible to have 100% of BSM blocked, filtered, deleted, scrambled and so on BUT, the truth is Uniden have made some big in-ways on this. Before getting my Uniden R3 I had my Magnum STi and Redline in use with K off. There is still the odd K band LEO encounter I get so it was frustrating as hello, even with TSR and in Auto Mode. The only saving grace in all this would be I pretty much drive highway and it is not that congested like the lower mainland around Vancouver. When iinto the urban driving the RD was shut off and tossed in the glove box.
What I am running on the R3 is City Mode with K Filter and K Narrow in all commuter traffic areas with great results!! I get the odd punch-through from the occasional BSM vehicle system but nothing like a RL or STi. Highway driving is awesome with only a rare BSM alert (and that is in Highway Mode (100% K), K filter, K narrow.
I think Uniden has had a great start and I feel they will achieve even better BSM filtering in the future.

Ditto.. especially when I am not in normal stomping grounds, traveled to new metro/urban/hwy areas. Unknown LEO patterns, new door opener false locations, and BSM punch through makes unpleasant travels.

Same for the others trying to catch up in overall effectness as a tool for users? What will the ChiCom/foreign engineered Uniden, or whoever cost once Escort is gone?

Well then DrHow and Run4donut better just not use a detector at all if they cannot handle some K falsing as no company is really doing much better than Uniden does. The fact is you should blame all the nanny bs on cars and suv's today and the manufacturers not using the correct bands they were suppose too.

The filtering on the Radenso Pro M and RC-M is nothing short of amazing, and if you don't have to run MRCD, BSM falses are pretty much non-existent. The only thing it is lacking is autolockouts for stationary K band falses, but if K band is a real threat you would likely err on the side of caution and use manual lockouts only.

The filtering on the R3 is pretty similar to a V1 with TMF2, but the V1 has the advantage of being able to use an app to help quiet things down even further (and add arguably the safest possible implementation of autolockouts for stationary falses).

Even dialed back to 30%, the R3 is far noisier in normal traffic around here than either the Pro M or V1. Hopefully Uniden will be able to leverage the DSP in the R1/R3 to provide better BSM filtering in a future firmware update. If Escort can do it, I'm sure Uniden can do it better.

Yea, get that. By the time we are all using walkers, the fed forcing car companies off this frequency to uncharted frequencies will take place. And when we are in scooters, most of the K band BSMs are junked or broke. So, things are looking up. :)

Thanks to @InsipidMonkey, +others In Radenso area, I went and bought Pro M. Can’t wait to get some road time with it. Should be in soon.

I still agree, ER overall doing better job with BSM +decent K range than the R3 I have. NOT taking away anything from the R3. The different ER models used work better in this area.

Well I have been running detectors for years now. I remember the days before BSM systems. It was a simpler time. You could train your ear to pick out the usual false alerts without the need for a gps detector. Fast forward to today and we have a lot of polluting vehicles on the road. Where I live the dealerships sell way more fully loaded vehicles than base stripped down models. This adds more polluters. You can't expect the signal to be real or false until you read the frequency and watch the ramp up. I have locked out all the stationary false alerts but its these moving vehicles that I can't avoid. Sometimes I run into very few and sometimes there is one at every turn. I found myself growing desensitized to all the noise which could land me a ticket. It really doesn't help that low powered K band guns showed up on the scene a couple years ago. The Stalker patrol and Kustom Rp1 have replaced most of the Ka units. So I'm getting hit from two sides here, more BSM vehicles plus low powered K band radar. I already hate the automakers and the leos. I put my faith in the detector manufacturers to come up with a solution.

Don't worry, I'll be young enough to benefit. Hell, I've seen one 85 y/o car flipper drive like a bat out of hell. He was the first for me to see use laser jammers. They were Escort Laser shifter pros with a IX CI.

I always find it interesting how people talk out of both sides of their head depending on what forum they're on.

If you're referring to Dr. How, his behavior has been discussed and addressed again.
