Uniden R3: No CITY 2 in v1.30 FW? What WERE those settings?

In anticipation of losing the City 2 slot with the new firmware, I'd like to ask the Beta testers out there to request from Uniden what those setting levels were so I have a starting point for the Advanced user tunable section.
Aside from the lower KA sensitivity I've heard about in this mode, I was actually quite happy with the City 2 settings for our dense and BSM riddled San Diego traffic. With City 2 and running KA WIDE and K WIDE with no filters my detector was extremely quiet.

Today on the way to work I ran City just to see if it would work for me and it will not. I had quite a few K band (24.201) BSMs that also triggered 34.787 and 34.849 ghosts.

Ideally I'd like to know exactly what that City 2 setting was so I can use it as a baseline (If Uniden would feel comfortable releasing that info that is...).

Thanks all!

I believe BRD posted this elsewhere already, but here ya go:

HWY
KA = Full sensitivity
K = Full sensitivity
X = Full sensitivity

CITY
KA = Full sensitivity
K = –15dB
X = –15dB

ADVANCED
- 100% = Full sensitivity
- 90% = –1dB
- 80% = –2dB
- 70% = –3dB
- 60% = –4.5dB
- 50% = –6dB
- 40% = –8dB
- 30% = –10.5dB

I think City2 cut K-band sensitivity to below what you could even set up custom in Advanced mode in 1.30. It cut it WAY back. The cool part is that in Advanced mode you can set Ka sensitivity to your liking (100% may mean getting continual Ka alerts from sources you never even see) as well as separately setting the K-band sensitivity to whatever you like (start reducing it until you feel comfortable with the BSM alerting levels and then leave it there).

I thought I have read numerous times that California only uses Ka?

Get out of here with your logic, :rofl: people practically burned me at the stake for saying I don't ALWAYS need Ka to alert me 2-3 miles away and I certainly don't need the worthless alerts I get from roads crossing over the highway where the cop is a good quarter to half mile or more from the highway.

City and City 2 were supposed to be exactly the same except that City 2 turned X off (we do know that Ka was accidently set incorrectly at the factory for City 2). So you should be able to emulate City 2 by turning X off in the main settings, and running City mode.

Were the BSMs that you got from vehicles that didn't normally false to City 2? Cause it should not work like that given the explanation above.

Yes, exactly. When I set City 2 I NEVER got a ghosted (alternating) k to Ka false pattern. I suspect that since the KA was also detuned in City 2 that is why...honestly don't know.

I couldn't spot the vehicles doing it on today's ride but it was a first and happened multiple times in dense traffic over 50+ miles.

Sweet, I had been wondering the same. I want to fine tune my units when 1.30 rolls out. According to this City will be 4.5 db less sensitive on k than running advanced @ 30%. Looks like City is the best setting for the OP without completely turning off k band.

I don't know why I'm saying this because no one probably cares but I could see myself running Ka at 90% or 80% when I'm on the freeways where they always use CO and I get annoying cross-roads alerts. Probably screw around with 50-60% on K and see what happens.

The ghosting problems should be gone or very nearly gone with the new firmware when it comes out. So I don't think you are going to need to reduce Ka sensitivity to avoid the problem you described. Just set X to off and then turn City on.

So If I set my Ka and K band advanced settings to 50%, My Uniden will have the same performance as the New Redline EX? :eek:

? So what sensitivity level is City Mode then? 10-20%

Bottom line is we are going to have to test and see how much warning running City mode gives before being in the kill zone. If it doesn't alert until in the kill zone then it won't be of much use. Nice to be able to dial back k band sensitivity in Advanced settings a few db at a time until it meets the users sweet spot.

That is an incredibly user-friendly set of settings. Really sensitive to the end user.

That's the basic principle the radenso XP used and I loved it! I don't know if the dBs were exactly the same but it's makes finding the sweet spot of quiet vs range achievable.

I'm amazed Uniden was willing to do it. I hope the general public doesn't end up finding the R series too complicated to use.
No one has to use Advanced Mode. The detector is quite usable just switching back and forth between Hwy and Cty in default settings for the average Joe who doesn't want to mess with complicated settings.
